Julieta Venegas Bio

Julieta Venegas was born on 24 November 1970. Independent pop artist with multiple Latin Grammy wins. The song “Andar Conmigo” by her became a hit and made her famous.  Pop-rock in Spanish is performed by Julieta Venegas Percevault, who was born in the United States on November 24, 1970, but raised in Mexico. She is trilingual, with a command of English, Portuguese, and Spanish. Yvonne, her identical twin, is a professional photographer. Venegas was born in Tijuana and started taking piano lessons at age 8. The Mexican ska band Tijuana No! was one of the subsequent bands she joined.

Venegas can also play the accordion and keyboard, in addition to the acoustic guitar. She is the recipient of numerous accolades, including five Latin Grammys and a Grammy. She has contributed to the scores of two films and has written music for the stage.

Her first album, Aqu, was published in 1997, and it was well-received by the Mexican rock community. Her later success with the album S and the singles “Andar Conmigo” and “Algo está cambiando,” which both peaked atop the Latin Billboard charts, established her as one of the most recognized songwriters in Latin pop.

Her best-selling album to date, Limón y Sal, was published by her in 2006. Many nations have certified “Me Voy,” a song by Limón y Sal, as Platinum. The Mexican certification for “Me voy” was Gold. On March 16, 2010, her album, titled Otra Cosa, was released around the world. In Mexico, Venegas now represents UNICEF as its Goodwill Ambassador. When she was ten years old, she picked up the piano as her first instrument. In 1997, she published her first album, titled Aqui.

In 1998, she wed Lvaro Henriquez; by 2000, they were separated. Her sister’s name is Yvonne, and they are twins. Later, she and her ex-boyfriend Rodrigo Garcia Prieto had a daughter they named Simona. After her big break in 2003, Venegas kept going. Her second album, 2006’s Limón y Sal, was just as accessible as her debut, and it went on to sell even more copies and create even more hit singles, becoming a phenomenon in both Western Europe and the Americas.

In addition to her widespread appeal, Venegas was also widely praised by critics and honored with a number of accolades and honors, including several Grammys. She not only composes and performs her own songs, but also plays multiple instruments, including the guitar, accordion, and piano, a fact that is commonly ignored. Besides her solo success, Venegas is well-known for the Hispanic musicians she has worked with, including Paulina Rubio, Mala Rodrguez, Miguel Bosé, and Los Tigres del Norte.

At the age of 22, Venegas relocated to Mexico City in pursuit of being a part of the city’s thriving music scene. Talented and stunning, she quickly made friends in high places like Fratta and Café Tacuba. She also picked up the accordion about this time and started composing music for plays like Francisco Franco’s Calgula Probablemente. Venegas recruited Fratta and Rafael González to join the band La Milagrosa, but when a record deal was offered to her by BMG, she abandoned the project in favor of recording her solo debut, Aqu (1997), in Los Angeles with renowned producer Gustavo Santaolalla.

Aqua features Venegas on accordion, piano, and guitar in addition to his composition and singing of the album’s songs. Other musicians, including the Rangel brothers from Café Tacuba, Rafael González from Botellita de Jerez, and Patricio Iglesias, also contributed to the album. The album, which was released by BMG in the US, Spain, and much of Latin America, was met with universal acclaim upon its debut. As an avid tourer, Venegas participated in the North American-spanning De Viva Voz tour with Ely Guerra and Aurora y la Academia as well as the Calaveras y Diablitos tour with Los Fabulosos Cadillacs and Aterciopelados. Not only did Venegas appear at numerous important festivals in the late ’90s, but she also donated her abilities to a number of albums by other artists.

In the years that followed, Venegas established herself in Madrid and Buenos Aires to work on her third album, S, alongside producers Coti Sorokin and Cachorro López. Six of the album’s ten tracks were created in collaboration with Sorokin, marking a departure from her previous work in favor of a vibrant pop/rock sound.

All of the songs on S are under four minutes long, the hooks are catchy and melodic, the tempos are lively, and the album as a whole is more accessible than her previous work, which frequently came across as aggressive. S went triple platinum in Mexico, where it debuted at number one, and into the Top Five on the Billboard Latin Albums chart in the United States. It also spawned four major hits, with three of them reaching number one in Mexico or the United States. The album’s success earned S a Latin Grammy for Best Rock Solo Vocal Album in 2004, as well as Best Solo Artist, Best Artist, and Artist of the Year at the 2004 MTV Video Music Awards.

After together with producers Coti Sorokin and Cachorro López, Venegas created a commercially successful, hit-filled pop/rock album for her second release, Limón y Sal. The main song, “Me Voy,” topped the Mexican singles chart for a total of 12 weeks. It also peaked at #1 in Spain, #3 in Italy, and #10 on the Latin Songs chart in the United States. “Limón y Sal,” “Eres Para M,” and “Primer Da” were just a few of the follow-up singles that followed “Me Voy” to the top of Latin American and European charts. “Limón y Sal” itself topped charts in Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, and Central America, as well as reaching the Top Five in Spain, the Top Ten in Switzerland, and the Top 200 in the United States.

Even after a best-of compilation, Realmente Lo Mejor was released in late 2007, Venegas continued to receive extensive airplay for the series of Limón y Sal singles. Meanwhile, the awards kept coming: a Latin Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album in 2006, an MTV Video Music Award for Best Solo Artist in 2006, and a Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album in 2007. In 2008, Venegas embarked on her first-ever international tour and released an MTV Unplugged album. Otra Cosa, her 2010 album, was certified Gold in her native Mexico. She had a kid in August of 2010, and in 2013 she released her sixth studio album, titled Momentos. Until then, no Latin artist has ever had an album distributed just for digital streaming in Latin America and Spain.
