Joyce Hyser Bio

Joyce Hyser, who was born in the United States on December 20, 1957, is a retired actress. She is most recognized for her part in the cult film Just One of the Guys, which was released in 1985, as well as for her recurrent appearance on the television show L.A. Law. Since 2012, Hyser has been concentrating on writing and producing screenplays[1, and her most recent part on screen was in the film The Wedding Pact, which was released in 2014. New York City is where Hyser began his life. She identifies as Jewish.

Hyser spent his childhood on the east coast, and as a consequence of a philanthropic organization called The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, he was able to attend summer camp on a yearly basis. She attributes her ability to uncover her abilities and acquire the confidence she needed to follow her aspirations to the experiences she had while attending summer camp. Acting was something that Hyser studied in both New York City and Los Angeles. After making appearances in a number of films during the early 1980s, Hyser’s last film role was in the 1985 comedy Just One of the Guys. After then, she mostly appeared as a guest star in several television programs, including a recurrent part in L.A. Law as the girlfriend of Jimmy Smits.

The music video for Dan Hartman’s song “I Can Dream About You” included her in a key role. Additionally, she appeared in the music video for the song “Pincushion” by ZZ Top, which was released in 1994 as a single off the band’s album titled Antenna. According to the book Bruce wrote by Peter Ames Carlin, she was in a relationship with Bruce Springsteen for around four years throughout the 1980s. This information is provided. In the latter part of that decade, she began a relationship with Warren Beatty, with whom she stayed for around a year and a half.

She tied the knot with Jeff Robinson, who is the proprietor of Canyon Creek Properties. The Harold Robinson Foundation has both of them serving on its board of directors. A dark horse appeared in the terrain of the adolescent rom-com scene of the 1980s: 1985’s “Just One of the Guys,” which wore its feminist message lightly and included jocks, geeks, and shoulder pads as major characters.

Terry, a high school student played by Joyce Hyser Robinson, decides that she has been discriminated against in a journalism competition for having only a lovely face, so she decides to go undercover as a guy at a rival school. This is a spoof of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night.” The cast consisted of primarily unknown actors, including a teenage Sherilyn Fenn, with the exception of Billy Zabka, who portrayed a bully and appeared in “The Karate Kid.”

In anticipation of the film’s 35th anniversary, which will take place on April 26, Hyser Robinson and Lisa Gottlieb, the film’s director, provide us with some behind-the-scenes information about the movie, which will be available on Blu-ray on April 28. Just One of the Guys is becoming 35 years old, and to commemorate the occasion, a special 2K Blu-ray remaster edition has been made available. The Shakespeare play Twelfth Night serves as the inspiration for the adolescent comedy that became a timeless classic in the 1980s.

The film has now established itself as a cult classic, despite the fact that at its first release, it was met with a variety of responses from reviewers. Lisa Gottlieb was the one who directed the project, while Dennis Feldman and Jeff Franklin were the ones who wrote it in collaboration. However, Gottlieb claims that she also created the script with Mitch Giannunzio, but the studio did not give him any credit for his contributions as a writer. On April 28th, consumers will be able to buy the Blu-ray version of the film. The main character in “Just One of the Guys,” Terri, is upset that her journalism instructor did not submit her piece in a contest to earn a summer internship at the local newspaper. Terri believes that this decision was made because of her gender.

She joins the competition at a competing school while posing as a male with the assistance of her younger brother, Buddy, who plays the role of a young Billy. During the course of her act, “Terry the Boy” has a run-in with a cruel bully named Greg and has to ward off an overly romantic classmate named Sandy. But when she develops feelings for an attractive outsider named Rick, our hero/heroine has to figure out a way to persuade him that she is not Just One of the Guys.

Audio commentary with Lisa Gottlieb, Arye Gross, Joyce Hyser, Clayton Rohner, Toni Hudson, and John Apicella is included on the deluxe edition of the film’s release on Blu-ray. Gottlieb claims that although Just One of the Guys is an adolescent comedy, it ended up having a more profound significance for a significant number of viewers. According to the director, “I would say that the most interesting and surprising thing I learned about Just One of the Guys is the enormous influence it had on young gay and transgender women.” She was part of a live Q&A session that went on for a very long period owing to the fact that ladies were sharing their experiences with the director. “For hours, women posted their stories, and I was genuinely moved,” Gottlieb recalls of the experience.

When it came time to work out the cast, Ralph Macchio’s performance in “The Karate Kid” served as a major source of inspiration. “We based Terry the guy on Ralph Macchio,” Gottlieb adds of the character. Macchio was a major celebrity at the time when Just One of the Guys was being filmed, and the popularity of his adolescent action flick only grew from there. This is mirrored in the humor when Sherilyn Fenn’s character remarks, “Dresses like Elvis Costello, looks like the Karate Kid…,” which encapsulates the sentiment well. I’m gonna get him.”

Hyser has recently taken on the role of spokesperson for the Harold Robinson Foundation, which runs a free summer camp for children who live in inner cities and come from disadvantaged backgrounds. In 2011, Hyser had a guest-starring role on the television show CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. In that part, she played a woman who pretended to be a guy and characterized it as a tribute to the film Just One of the Guys.
