Bio

He was born in Manhattan, Kansas on May 31, 1985. The Packers selected him in the second round of the draught. Nelson was a walk-on for the 2003 Big 12 Championship squad at Kansas State University when he redshirted with Heisman finalist Darren Sproles. Nelson excelled as a quarterback and defensive back in high school. Nelson chose to play defensive back in college, but Coach Bill Snyder switched him to wide receiver during spring practice following his freshman year.

Nelson caught 45 passes for 8 touchdowns in his second season. Due to injuries, he missed the majority of his junior season, resulting in a poor season in which he only caught 39 passes for one touchdown. After going undetected his junior year, Nelson had a breakout year as one of the top receivers in the country, receiving consensus All-American accolades and a Biletnikoff Award nominee. Nelson hauled in 122 passes for 1,606 yards and 11 touchdowns on 122 catches. Nelson also demonstrated his versatility by tossing two touchdowns and returning two punts for touchdowns, one of which was a 92-yarder against Baylor and the other an 89-yarder against No. 7 Texas.

Nelson demonstrated his speed by running a 4.47 in the 40-yard sprint. Nelson was named to the Biletnikoff Award shortlist during his junior season, which honours college football’s best wide receiver. In the following week’s 30–24 loss to Kansas, Nelson had another outstanding performance, catching 10 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown.Nelson finished the season with a six-game streak of receiving touchdowns following the 47–20 win over Colorado.

Nelson caught 12 passes for 176 yards and three touchdowns in a 41–39 loss to Oklahoma State on October 20. Nelson caught eight passes for 105 yards and a touchdown against the Baylor Bears. In the 51–13 triumph, he also scored on a 92-yard punt return touchdown. Nelson had 14 catches for 214 yards and a score in a 31–20 loss against Iowa State on November 3. Nelson had nine receptions for 125 yards and a touchdown in the following game against Nebraska, which ended in a 73–31 defeat.He had eight receptions for 94 yards and a touchdown against #6 Missouri the next week in a 49–32 defeat.  Nelson caught 15 passes for 165 yards and a touchdown against Fresno State in a 45–29 loss. Nelson’s college career came to an end in that game against Fresno State, when Kansas State’s bowl eligibility was jeopardised by the loss.

Nelson was chosen by the Green Bay Packers in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft, with the 36th overall choice. After Donnie Avery and Devin Thomas, he was the third wide receiver selected in the draught. He was also one of two Kansas State Wildcats chosen in that year’s draught.  Since Quincy Morgan went 33rd overall in 2001, he was the highest-drafted wide receiver out of Kansas State.

He debuted in the NFL against the Minnesota Vikings in Green Bay’s season opener. In the 24–19 triumph, he was targeted once and returned a kickoff 23 yards. His first touchdown reception was a 29-yard ball from quarterback Aaron Rodgers on September 14, 2008, in Week 2 against the Detroit Lions. In the 48–25 triumph, he only had one touchdown reception.  Throughout the season, Nelson was a dependable presence for the Packers. He had 25 receptions for 267 yards and a touchdown from Week 3 to Week 13. In a 24–21 loss to the Houston Texans in Week 14, Nelson scored his second receiving touchdown on a nine-yard reception. Nelson and the Packers concluded the season with a 6–10 record, missing the playoffs. Nelson has 33 catches for 366 yards and two touchdowns in his debut season.

 

Nelson’s services were essential in the Packers’ 31-25 victory over the Steelers. Nelson signed a three-year, $13.35 million contract deal early in the 2011 season, following his excellent Super Bowl performance and a strong start to the season. Nelson had career highs in touchdowns ( catches and receiving yards in the 2011–12 regular season 1,26). In the season finale against the Detroit Lions, he set a new career-best with three touchdown receptions, moving into sole ownership of third place in Packers franchise history for receiving touchdowns in a single season, behind only Sterling Sharpe and Don Hutson. From 2003 through 2005, Nelson was a member of Kansas State University’s football team, which was coached by Bill Snyder. Nelson stayed with Kansas State after Snyder departed following the 2005 season, and played the remainder of his college career under Ron Prince (2006 and 200 Seasons 2003-2004 Nelson began his college career as a walk-on at Kansas State, where he redshirted during the 2003 Big 12 Championship season.  Nelson was supposed to play defensive back in 2004, but Snyder converted him to wide receiver during spring camp following his rookie year. In the Wildcats’ 4–7 season in 2004, he did not have any significant statistics.

Nelson has a touchdown catch in each of his last seven games, including the season opener. Nelson’s best performance during that seven-game run came against Oklahoma in a 43–21 loss, when he had three receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown, one of which was a 73-yard catch from Webb.  With a 5–6 record, Kansas State struggled late in the season and missed out on a bowl game.  Nelson had seven catches for 74 yards and a touchdown in the final game of the season, a 36–28 win over Missouri. Nelson has 45 receptions for 669 yards and eight touchdowns during his second season.

In the 37–36 loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 20, 2009, Nelson had four receptions for 71 yards, a season best. In the regular-season finale against the Arizona Cardinals on January 3, 2010, he had one reception for 51 yards in a 33–7 victory.  Nelson caught 22 catches for 320 yards and two receiving touchdowns in 13 games for the Packers in 2009. Along with Tramon Williams, he was also used as a primary kick returner.  Nelson had a 25.40 average on kickoff returns and a 5.29 average on punt returns.

During the 2010 season, Nelson’s role with the Packers grew. Nelson has 29 receptions for 301 yards and some kick return responsibilities during the first ten games of the season. In a 20–17 loss against the Atlanta Falcons on November 28, Nelson recorded five catches for 61 yards and his first receiving touchdown of the season. With only 56 seconds remaining, Nelson scored a game-tying ten-yard touchdown reception.  In a 45–17 victory over the New York Giants on December 26, he had four receptions for 124 yards and a score, the longest of which was an 80-yard reception
