Bio

John Adedayo Adegboyega, best known by his stage name John Boyega, is a British actor and producer who rose to fame for his role as Moses in the 2011 comedy film “Attack the Block.” The character of Finn, whom he played in the seventh installment of the “Star Wars” film series, “The Force Awakens,” is the one that brought him the most fame. His first significant part on stage was the title character in “Othello,” which he debuted in 2010. In order to build a name for himself in the industry, he launched his own production business and appeared in a variety of movies and television series. He is a guy who has made something of himself despite having a modest upbringing in South London. His Nigerian parents hoped that he would follow in his father’s footsteps and become a preacher. However, they encouraged him to pursue his dream of being an actor and helped him get funding for his training at an acting academy.

After finishing his schoolwork each day, he would come home and practice his acting skills at Theatre Peckham. After that, he went on to get a certificate in Performing Arts and abandoned his studies for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film Studies and Media Writing in order to focus on his professional career. Boyega was born on March 17, 1992, in Peckham, which is located in South London. His parents, Abigail and Samson, were immigrants from Nigeria. His mother was a social worker, and his father had been a Pentecostal preacher. His father had hoped that his son would follow in his footsteps. His childhood was spent in a low-income housing complex, and he received his primary education at Oliver Goldsmith School. At the early age of five, he was already aware of his natural aptitude for acting, and he focused all of his efforts on developing this ability.

He was discovered by Teresa Early, the director of Theatre Peckham when she was seeing him perform in a school play when he was just nine years old. After school, he joined Theatre Peckham and studied acting with other youngsters from South London who were between the ages of nine and fourteen. His parents were also very supportive of his decision to pursue an acting career. He received some financial aid from a hardship fund. It was the year 2003 that he was accepted into Westminster City School. While he was still in school, he took part in a number of plays. After that, he enrolled at South Thames College’s Wandsworth campus in order to pursue a program leading to a National Diploma in Performing Arts qualification. In college, he became well known for portraying the main role of Othello in a performance of the play put on by the campus.

After that, he enrolled at the University of Greenwich for a BA in Film Studies and Media Writing, but he eventually left school to pursue a career in acting instead. Before being granted a part in the 2011 science fiction comedy film “Attack the Block,” he received his acting training at the Identity School of Acting in Hackney and made a total of six performances on stage at both the National Theatre and the Tricycle Theatre. He plays the part of Moses, a street-smart urban youngster who, together with his buddies, defends the city against an extraterrestrial invasion. This was the first role he had that really launched his acting career. In the same year, he had a role in the movie “Junkhearts,” in which he played a drug dealer involved in the underworld of gun trafficking.

He was given a role in the boxing drama ‘Da Brick,’ which was written by John Ridley and was inspired by the life of Mike Tyson. But he was dealt a blow when HBO decided not to air the movie they had been producing. He did not give up hope, and in 2012, he appeared in the movie “My Murder,” which was a step forward for his career. This was then followed by two adaptations of historical fiction books written by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie on the Nigerian civil war: the first was “Half of a Yellow Sun” in 2013, and the second was “Imperial Dreams” in 2014. His role as Finn, a stormtrooper who deserts the force after witnessing brutalities committed by them on his first combat mission and then fights back for justice, was his big break, which he got with a lead role in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” In the film, he plays a character who does both of these things.

His performance helped the movie get positive reviews, which contributed to the film’s overall financial success. In 2016, he established his own production business and gave it the name Upperroom Entertainment Limited. The sequel to the film “Pacific Rim,” which was released in 2013, is titled “Pacific Rim: Uprising,” and it has him in the starring role. He also co-produced the film together with Legendary Entertainment. In addition, he had a role in the film about the riots in Detroit in 1967 that was directed by Kathryn Bigelow. Soon, you’ll be able to see him in the forthcoming suspense film titled “The Circle,” which also stars Emma Watson and Tom Hanks.

While he was still a student at South Thames College, he made his debut as a leading actor on stage in the title role of “Othello” in the year 2010. Moses in “Attack the Block”, Jamal in “Junkhearts”, Ugwu in “Half of a Yellow Sun”, Finn in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Jake Pentecost in “Pacific Rim: Uprising” are some of the most notable parts he has played in films.

He has made guest appearances on the television programs The Whale,’ ‘Becoming Human,’ and ‘Law & Order: UK.’ In addition to that, he provided his voice for the shows “Major Lazer,” “Watership Down,” and “Tinkershrimp & Dutch,” in which he provided the voice for the lead character, Dutch. In 2011, Boyega was selected by Fionnuala Halligan to be one of the ‘UK Stars of Tomorrow,’ and he was featured on the cover of the magazine Screen International.’Because of his work, he has been considered for a number of accolades, and in 2011, he was given the Black Reel Award for Best Actor for his performance in the film “Attack the Block.” In addition, the performance he gave in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” earned him the BAFTA Rising Star Award as well as the Empire Award for Best Male Newcomer.
