Gerald Calvin “Jerry” Douglas is a Dobro and lap steel guitar musician in the United States as well as a record producer. Douglas was born on May 28, 1956. He is considered by many people to be “perhaps the finest Dobro player in contemporary acoustic music, and certainly the most celebrated and prolific.” As a solo artist and as a member of various ensembles, such as Alison Krauss and Union Station and The Earls of Leicester, he is considered one of the most innovative recording artists in music, has won a total of fourteen Grammy Awards, and The New York Times has referred to him as “the dobro’s matchless contemporary master.”

On October 15, 2016, the Bluegrass Heritage Foundation in Dallas, Texas, honored Douglas with the Bluegrass Star Award. This honor was handed to Douglas by the foundation. Bluegrass musicians that perform an outstanding job of expanding traditional bluegrass music, bringing it to new audiences, and conserving its character and traditions are recognized with this honor.
In 2011, the Americana Music Association bestowed upon Jerry Douglas their organization’s highest accolade, the Lifetime Achievement Award. During a performance at the 2015 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, Douglas was presented with the key to the city of Manchester, Tennessee, as well as to Coffee County.
