Jeremy Michael Jordan an American actor and musician, was born on November 20, 1984, in the United States. In addition to performing in other theatrical plays, he has appeared on Broadway, in television and cinema, on stage, and in concert. In 2009, he made his debut on Broadway as a member of the cast of Rock of Ages. After that, he went on to star in the original Broadway musicals Bonnie & Clyde (2011) as Clyde Barrow and Newsies (2012) as Jack Kelly, both of which earned him nominations for the Tony Award and the Grammy Award, respectively.
In addition, he has made appearances in performances of the musicals West Side Story and Waitress on Broadway, where he played the role of Tony and Dr. Jim Pomatter, respectively. On Broadway, he has also performed in the play American Son. He played the role of Seymour Krelborn in the Off-Broadway revival of Little Shop of Horrors in 2021 and 2023. On the big screen, he is best known for his roles as Jimmy Collins in the NBC series Smash (2013) and as the love interest of Anna Kendrick in the 2014 musical film The Last Five Years. On the CBS and CW superhero drama series Supergirl, which is based on DC Comics, he plays the role of Winslow “Winn” Schott Jr. from 2015 to 2021.
When he was in the seventh grade, his stepmother was killed in a vehicle accident. When Jordan sustained an injury and was forced to take time off from playing sports while he recovered, he began to explore singing as a career. While his father is of English, Scottish, Welsh, and German origin, his mother is Jewish (her parents’ family were Jewish immigrants from Russia, Poland, Latvia, and Lithuania). His paternal grandparents came to the United States from Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, and Russia. He has been quoted as saying, “I am Jewish.
When I was growing up, we celebrated both Jewish and Christian holidays.” I enjoyed the advantages of both worlds. He was a very good student and graduated from Mary Carroll High School, where he sang in the chorus and was recognized for his academic achievements. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in musical theatre from Ithaca College, which is located in Ithaca, New York.
While Jordan was a teenager, he started singing, and while he was in high school, he started acting. In 2008, he starred as Alex in the production of The Little Dog Laughed at Hartford Theatreworks. For his performance in this play, he was nominated for a Connecticut Critics Circle award. In the latter part of that year, he portrayed Tom Sawyer in the production of Big River which was staged at the Goodspeed Opera House in Connecticut. In 2009, he was a part of the Broadway cast for the musical Rock of Ages.
In the 2009 West Side Story revival that was performed on Broadway, Jordan was considered for the role of Tony, which was the lead role. He also starred as Clyde Barrow in the pre-Broadway trial of the new musical Bonnie & Clyde by Frank Wildhorn and Don Black in 2010 in Sarasota, Florida. The musical was written by Frank Wildhorn and Don Black. When the production first began performances on Broadway on December 1, 2011, he made his debut in the role of Clyde. The final performance of the program took place on December 30, 2011, bringing the total number of shows to 36.
In September and October of 2011, Jordan appeared on stage as Jack in the production of Newsies that was staged at the Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey. Jordan played Jack Kelly once again in the Broadway production of Disney’s Newsies, which had music composed by Alan Menken, lyrics written by Jack Feldman, and a book written by Harvey Fierstein. On March 29, 2012, the musical play Newsies made its debut at the Nederlander Theatre.
Because of his work in the role, Jordan was considered for a Tony Award nomination in 2012 in the category of Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical. As a principal soloist on the original cast recording for the musical Newsies, he was considered for a Grammy Award nomination in the category of Best Musical Theatre recording in 2013.
In the concert A Bed and A Chair for Encores! that was staged by Stephen Sondheim and Wynton Marsalis and held at New York City Center from November 13 to November 17, 2013, he had an appearance alongside Norm Lewis and Bernadette Peters. In December 2013, Jordan made an appearance in the concert presentation of the fictitious musical that had been created for the second season of Smash called Hit List.
He has given many performances at the 54 Below club in New York City, both as a solo artist and with his fellow Smash cast members. A concert version of Parade, likewise written by Jason Robert Brown, was presented in the Avery Fisher Hall in the Lincoln Center on February 16, 2015, with Jordan playing the role of Leo Frank and Laura Benanti playing the role of Lucille Frank. In the English concept album of Death Note: The Musical, which was released in 2014/2015, Jordan played the role of Light Yagami.
Alongside Karen Olivo and George Akram, Jordan performed as Tony once again for the West Side Story concerts that took place at the Hollywood Bowl in June of 2016. Since Jordan had recorded demos for the movie The Greatest Showman in 2015, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul approached Jordan at the beginning of 2016 and asked him to sing the part of Phillip Carlyle in a read-through of The Greatest Showman. Hugh Jackman, the headliner of the show, had nose surgery the day before the read-through, and his doctor gave him strict instructions not to sing during the rehearsal. Jordan consented to the request made by Pasek and Paul that he also sing the leading character of PT Barnum while Hugh Jackman acted out the sequences in the musical.
Alongside Kerry Washington and Steven Pasquale, Jordan had his Broadway debut in the play American Son in October 2018, and all three of them went on to reprise their roles in the film adaptation of the play that was released on Netflix in 2019. In 2019, Jordan began performing in the Broadway musical Waitress alongside Shoshana Bean on the stage of the theater. During the month of April 2021, he was a guest on The Theatre Podcast with Alan Seales, where they discussed his cabaret show “Carry On” which was performed at 54 Below.
Following the COVID-19 epidemic that occurred in 2021, Jordan was cast in the role of Seymour in the reopening cast of the Off-Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors. Beginning on July 25, 2023, and continuing for a total of eight weeks until September 17, 2023, he performed as his character in the musical Little Shop of Horrors during that year’s engagement. It was revealed in July 2023 that Jordan and Eva Noblezada would play leading roles in a new musical adaption of The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Music and lyrics for the performance were written by Jason Howland and Nathan Tysen, and Kait Kerrigan was responsible for writing the book. It is intended that the musical will have its debut at the Paper Mill Playhouse on October 12 of the same year, and a transfer to Broadway is in the works.
