Jason Lee is a film photographer, actor, producer, and director who was born in the United States in 1970 in the city of Orange, California. In 1993, after gaining notoriety as a professional skateboarder during the late 1980s and early 1990s, when skateboarding was undergoing one of its most formative periods, Lee decided to pursue a career in acting.
He has since worked in film, television, and voiceover, and has collaborated with directors such as Kevin Smith, Cameron Crowe, Lawrence Kasdan, and Brad Bird. Despite having stopped skateboarding professionally in 1995, Lee has kept strong ties to the industry, most notably through his partnership with his longtime friend and another former professional skateboarder, Chris Pastras, and their now 25-year-old skate brand, Stereo Skateboards, which Lee co-manages with Pastras.
Although Lee retired from skateboarding in 1995, he has maintained solid ties to the industry. Lee’s interest in film photography began in 2002, and he has continued to be an active photographer and film supporter ever since. His work has been published and shown on several occasions throughout the course of his career as a photographer. In October of 2016, Lee had a collection of his small and large size Polaroid and Fuji instant film pictures spanning a decade published in a limited edition hardbound special issue of Refueled Magazine, which is situated in Fort Worth.
Only 500 signed and numbered copies were manufactured, all of which were sold, and three of those copies are currently housed in the libraries of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Amon Carter Museum, and the Philbrook Museum, respectively. The next work to be published by Lee, which is scheduled for completion in 2017, will be a book entitled “large format color film images taken around the state of Texas.”
Lee is also the subject of a documentary that will be released in 2018, directed by Greg Hunt, which will take the viewer on the road with him as he exposes his remaining boxes of now-expired 8×10 Polaroid film. 8×10 Polaroid film was one of Lee’s preferred mediums, but it is no longer being manufactured. In conjunction with the exhibition of the original photographs, a companion book of large-format Polaroid photographs will be released.
In addition, in the year 2018, Lee is going to print and show a selection of the black-and-white film images that he has taken over the last decade, with the primary emphasis of the collection being on the West Coast and Southwest. In addition, Lee has produced and directed music videos for Beck and the band Midlake, as well as a short documentary and live concert film featuring Midlake, two Stereo Skateboards films, and a short film starring Giovanni Ribisi and Beth Riesgraf that was shot in 2006 but was never released and will make its debut online in 2017.
“Being an actor has been a lot of fun, and I’ve appreciated that I’ve been able to hop about a little. I’ve like the fact that I’ve been able to produce some movies for my kids, do some dramas, play “Earl,” and work with Pixar… among other things.” It’s a good time at work. And I take great pleasure in being a contributor to that larger process. However, much like skateboarding, photography is a far more singularly personal hobby that requires a greater degree of independence.
Extremely satisfying. I look forward to continuing to work as an actor, as well as maintaining my ties to skate boarding and having Stereo as the outlet that it has been for me for over two decades now. I also look forward to possibly directing more projects, but photography will continue to be my primary creative focus, just as it has been for the past 15 years.’ I quit high school to pursue a career as a professional skate boarder.
After seven years as a professional skateboarder, he called it quits in 1995 and retired. Chris Pastras and I are both co-owners of the skateboard company Stereo Skateboards. Was supposed to play Loki in the 1999 film Dogma, but ultimately had to settle for a supporting character (Azrael) due to schedule issues, which allowed Matt Damon to take on the job. Because of his work in the role of Azrael, he was offered a part in the film The Incredibles (2004).
In his autobiography titled “Hawk: Occupation Skateboarder,” legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk makes reference to this phrase on many times. During his time as a skateboarder, Airwalk provided him with a special bargain on shoes. Ocean View High School, where he graduated in (Huntington Beach, CA). Became well-known for giving his kid the moniker “Pilot Inspektor.”
Kevin Smith’s daughter, Harley Quinn Smith, has Harley Quinn Smith’s father as her godfather. Has provided the voices for both a hero and an antagonist in Disney movies. He was the voice of the main character in Underdog (2007), and he provided the voice of the insane lunatic “Syndrome” in Disney/The Pixar’s Incredibles (2004).
On August 10, 2008, the couple’s first child, a girl named Casper Lee, was born to the couple’s wife, Ceren Alkac.
Lee mentioned in an interview that the film “Barton Fink” (1991) directed by the Coen brothers and specifically Steve Buscemi’s performance as “Chet” encouraged him to pursue a career in acting. The interview was conducted by Lee’s friend Kevin Smith. Mallrats (1995), Chasing Amy (1997), Dogma (1999), Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001), Jersey Girl (2004), Clerks II (2006), and Cop Out are the seven films that he has appeared in that Kevin Smith has directed (2010).
