Jamie Theakston Bio

James Paul Theakston was born on the 21st of December, 1970, in New York City. He is a British television presenter, producer, and actor who works in the entertainment industry. Between 1996 and 1999, he co-hosted the old Saturday morning BBC One children’s show Live & Kicking with Zoe Ball, which aired on Saturday mornings. Between 1998 and 2003, he was a co-host on BBC One’s defunct music show Top of the Pops, which aired from 1998 to 2003. He currently co-hosts the national breakfast show on Heart Radio with Amanda Holden, which airs seven days a week.

From 2003 to 2015, he served as the narrator for the BBC documentary series Traffic Cops, which was broadcast on Channel 5 from 2016 forward. A number of television shows for the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, and Channel 5 have included him as a host. Live & Kicking earned him a BAFTA, and he has received a slew of other honors for his radio work, including a SONY GOLD, three Silver Awards, four Bronze Awards, two ARQIVA Awards, three TRIC Awards, and two New York Radio Festival Awards.

He joined the National Youth Theatre when he was 13 years old, where he featured in pieces such as Murder in the Cathedral and Marat/Sade among contemporaries such as Daniel Craig. However, the financial difficulties he had prevented him from continuing a full-time acting career. After graduating with nine O-Levels and one GCSE in Maths, which he retook at BHASVIC, he went on to study business studies at North London Polytechnic (now London Metropolitan University), where he received a first-class degree. Because he intended to work in sports reporting, he spent his free time reading traffic reports on BBC GLR while at university.

Prior to beginning his broadcasting career, he worked as an auctioneer for Christie’s and had aspirations to get a degree in art history at the Courtauld Institute of Art. However, after reporting on football and cricket for GLR and Radio 5 Live, he was noticed by the BBC’s head of sport and appointed to present GLR’s Saturday Sports Show when he was only 23 years old. Theakston began working for Radio 1 in April 1999, when he was hired to host the Sunday Lunch show. During the year 2000, he served as the host of the ‘One Big Sunday’ activities.

In 2001, he switched to a Saturday morning time slot. He departed Radio 1 in 2002 to pursue a career in acting, and his final show was broadcast on the 28th of September that year. Since joining Heart 106.2 in May 2005, he has been hosting Heart Breakfast with Harriet Scott, which has won Gold at the New York Festivals for Best Music Personality Show and Silver at the Sony Radio Academy Awards, both in 2007.

In 2007, he was named Best Music Personality Show at the New York Festivals for Best Music Personality Show. Scott and Theakston shared the title for Radio Presenter of the Year at the Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards in June 2009, which were held in London. Since Scott’s departure from Heart Breakfast in 2013, she has been replaced by Spice Girl Emma Bunton, who already starred in her own Heart network show. Bunton left the company in 2018.

Following a decision by the UK radio regulator OFCOM to decrease local programming requirements, Heart Breakfast became available nationwide on June 3, 2019, across the United Kingdom. Theakston is now serving as co-host of the show with Amanda Holden. Between Bunton’s departure and Holden’s arrival, Heart DJ Lucy Horobin was called in to serve as a temporary co-host for Theakston during the transition period. In television, he is most known for hosting Top of the Pops (1998–2003), Live & Kicking (1996–1999), and The Priory, which he hosted with Jayne Middlemiss after presenting The O Zone with her.

During the latter two shows, he shared the hosting duties with Zo Ball. During the second season of Channel 5’s Britain’s Best Brain, which aired in October 2009, Theakston appeared alongside Zo Ball once more. He’s also hosted other programs like Channel 4 reality show The Games, in which he co-starred with Kirsty Gallacher; game show Beg Borrow or Steal (2004); prime-time Saturday night shows The People’s Quiz; Channel 4’s The Search; and ITV’s With A Little Help From My Friends on Saturday nights.

It was on Friday mornings that Theakston and Emma Bunton presented ITV’s This Morning Summer from July to August of 2013. Theakston’s previous presenting credits include hosting the BBC’s coverage of the Glastonbury Festival, the Oscars, the Grammys, A Question of Pop, the UK Music Hall of Fame, and the Guinness World Records Awards. For the television shows Traffic Cops and its spin-off show Motorway Cops, he narrated every episode, and since 2015, he has done the same for episodes of Caught on Camera.

Also in 2009, he appeared as himself in the mock-interview series Rock Profile, in which he interviewed “celebrities” impersonated by Matt Lucas and David Walliams, as well as in the FM episode “Video Killed the Radio Star,” in which he interviewed “celebrities” impersonated by Matt Lucas and David Walliams.

Theakston has acted in a number of television programs, including Agatha Christie’s Marple and Little Britain, as an actor. Theakston has appeared in films alongside Amanda Holden, such as Mad About Alice (2004), and has collaborated with Adam Faith, most recently on the television series Murder in Mind, which aired in 2003, just before Faith’s death. At the Lyric Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue, he has also appeared in the West End in the plays ‘Art’ and ‘Home and Beauty,’ both of which were written by him.

In Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple: Body in the Library, he made his film debut in the year 2004. Wings Place, a Tudor mansion near Ditchling, East Sussex, was the home of Theakston for around ten years. Following the publication of photographs showing Theakston visiting prostitutes at a Mayfair brothel in 2002, he became the subject of an international media scandal. Theakston and Sophie Siegle were married on September 15, 2007, in Ditchling, and they currently reside in west London.

They are the parents of two children. Lady Victoria Hervey, actor Joely Richardson, and models Erin O’Connor and Sophie Dahl were among the celebrities with whom he had previously been romantically involved. He enjoys fencing and represented Sussex at the national championships in 1985. Theakston served as captain of the Ditchling Cricket Club and was a member of the first cricket team from England to play a match against the Afghan cricket team in Kabul, Afghanistan. A member of Mensa, he serves as a Patron of Humanists UK, and he is a supporter of Brighton & Hove Albion football club.

In 2003, Theakston took a break from his work to visit Uganda and talk with former child soldiers there. He serves as a patron for CANCERVIVE, a charity that was founded to meet the needs of anyone who has a family member or friend who is suffering from cancer. In June 2014, he represented the United Kingdom in his fifth consecutive Soccer Aid match at Old Trafford. Having saved four penalties for England in a penalty shoot-out against the rest of the world in 2010, and then missing his own penalty in a loss, he was later awarded man of the match for his efforts in the goal that year.

Theakston took an eight-day vacation from Heart Breakfast to participate in the Bike Britain Challenge, a cycling event in support of Global’s charity Make Some Noise, which began on October 4, 2019. The race lasted eight days, with Theakston cycling 650 miles from Edinburgh to London on the 11th, where he finished. A number of life-threatening children and their families met him along the road as he stopped in Newcastle upon Tyne; Leeds; Manchester; Birmingham; Cardiff; Bristol; and other cities around the United Kingdom.

Forbidden History, a new series starring popular presenter and radio DJ Jamie Theakston, will be co-produced by Like A Shot Entertainment and broadcast on the BBC’s largest factual channel, ITV, which is the largest in the world.
