Late-night sponsor and comic Jimmy Fallon was born on September 19, 1974, in Brooklyn, New York. Fallon first began performing stand-up humor in high school and later dropped out of school to pursue his comedy career. In 1998, Fallon landed his dream job, joining the cast of Saturday Night Live. A subsequent attempt at a big-screen career stalled, but the comic found success as host of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon starting in 2009. He hailed as the new host of this Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on February 17, 2014.
Comedian and actor James Thomas Fallon Jr. was born on September 19, 1974, in Brooklyn, New York. He was a Saturday Night Live enthusiast since childhood, and the caption for his picture in his 8th grade yearbook read:”Most likely to replace David Letterman.” He attended the College of St. Rose in Albany before falling out just shy of graduation to pursue a career in comedy in Los Angeles, California.
In the late 1990s, Fallon moved back to New York and fulfilled a lifelong dream with the opportunity to audition for his favorite show, Saturday Night Live. Meeting with co-creator and manufacturer Lorne Michaels, Fallon won him over with his belief of Adam Sandler. He joined the show’s cast for the 1998-1999 season, which also featured Will Ferrell, Tracy Morgan and Molly Shannon.
Throughout his time on the series, Fallon became famous for his impressions. He took on such famous names as Robert De Niro, John Lennon, Chris Rock and Mick Jagger. In terms of original characters, Fallon brought to life a diverse mix of characters. There was a snotty department store clerk, a boy-band member and a sullen Boston teenager, amongst others.
Fallon also co-hosted SNL’s recurring news sketch “Weekend Update” with Tina Fey. The duo proved to be a favorite pairing, with Fallon also with the”Weekend Update” platform in 2004 to announce he was leaving the series.
The funnyman then tried to transition into feature films, with mixed results. He awakened with Queen Latifah for the 2004 crime comedy Taxi, which was a commercial and critical dud, and combined Drew Barrymore for its 2005 baseball-themed romantic comedy Fever Pitch. In 2006, Fallon showed a dramatic side in Factory Girl. The film starred Guy Pearce as celebrity Andy Warhol and Sienna Miller as his muse, Edie Sedgwick. Fallon played promoter Chuck Wein.
‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’
In 2008, Fallon landed a challenging, high-profile function. NBC announced the young comedian would be carrying over Conan O’Brien’s late-night talk show the next year. He was under plenty of pressure when his series, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, first aired in March 2009. His first guests included Robert De Niro and Justin Timberlake.
While he originally received mixed reviews, Fallon finally became a favorite late-night host. His boyish charm and quirky spoofs and stunts won over viewers. Along with interviews and monologues, Fallon performed comedy segments, such as playing games with guests and making funny videos.
‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’
In April 2013, it was declared that Fallon would eventually become the new host of The Tonight Show, after the expiration of Jay Leno’s contract, with the series shifting its production from Los Angeles to New York.
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon surfaced on February 17, 2014. “I just need to do the best I can,” he said. “And look after the show for some time.”
Backed by the hip-hop group The Roots, and fostered by these fan-favorite sections as”Slow Jam the News” and”Thank You Notes,” Fallon routinely beat out competition from Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel’s shows during his early years on The Tonight Show. However, because the rhetoric of the 24/7 news cycle grew increasingly polarized, Fallon found himself losing ground in the ratings to fellow late-night host Stephen Colbert, who wasn’t shy about criticizing President Donald Trump’s actions.
The situation was exacerbated by then-candidate Trump’s look on The Tonight Show at September 2016, when Fallon playfully messed up his guest’s hair. Even though the interaction was barely out of the ordinary for a host known for being a wonderful guy, he brought heat for”humanizing” a candidate that had offended many with his remarks.
In June 2018, after Fallon expressed sorrow with how he handled the interview to The Hollywood Reporter, Trump told him to”be a man” on Twitter. In response, Fallon tweeted he was making a contribution in Trump’s title into the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAISES), a Texas nonprofit that was coping with the fallout of the government’s arrests and detaining of immigrant households in the U.S.-Mexico border.
In March 2020, after the coronavirus outbreak shut down production on The Tonight Show, Fallon made headlines for hosting the”at home” versions of his series, with assistance from his loved ones.
Comedy Albums & Books
Fallon has released two comedy albums, The Bathroom Wall (2002) and Blow Off Your Pants Off (2012). He’s also hosted the MTV Movie Awards, the Emmys and the Golden Globes.
Moreover, the entertainer has published several novels, including I Hate This Place: The Pessimist’s Guide to Life (1999), co-written with his mom, and the children’s book This Is Baby (2019).
Wife & Kids
Fallon lives in Nyc. He married Hollywood producer Nancy Juvonen on Necker Island in the Caribbean on December 22, 2007. The couple welcomed their first child together in July 2013. They called their daughter Winnie Rose. Their second daughter, Frances Cole, was born on December 3, 2014.
