Jacob Lumet Cannavale is a musician and actor who was born in the United States on May 1, 1995. In 2015, he made his debut on Broadway in the comedic production of Larry David’s Fish in the Dark. Additionally, he has been seen in episodes of the television shows Nurse Jackie and The Mandalorian. He is the grandson of film director Sidney Lumet, the son of actor Bobby Cannavale and screenwriter Jenny Lumet, the great-grandson of singer and actress Lena Horne, and the son of actor Bobby Cannavale and screenwriter Jenny Lumet.
Jake Cannavale is an American actor and musician. He is most known for his part as the son of a character that was played by his real-life father, actor Bobby Cannavale, in the Emmy Award–winning medical comedy–drama series ‘Nurse Jackie.’ Jake Cannavale is also a musician. The stage actor, who is only 24 years old, has already made an appearance in the comedy “Fish in the Dark” on Broadway, where he shared the stage with the legendary comedian and TV personality Larry David.
Jake ended up making his ‘Broadway’ debut while he was still in his teens, thus becoming the fourth generation of his illustrious family to perform on ‘Broadway,’ following in the footsteps of his father, Bobby; his maternal grandfather, legendary filmmaker Sidney Lumet; his great-grandfather, actor Baruch Lumet; and his mother’s maternal grandmother, legendary singer, and thespian Lena Horne.
Jake Lumet Cannavale was born on May 1, 1995, in Manhattan, New York City. His parents, actor Bobby Cannavale and author Jenny Lumet gave him the name Jake Lumet Cannavale. Jake is a member of an outstanding American entertainment family, primarily on his mother’s side. He is most certainly a descendant of South Carolina leader John C. Calhoun, in addition to being the grandson and great-grandson of Hollywood luminaries Sidney Lumet and Lena Horne, respectively.
His maternal grandparents are the journalist and novelist Gail Lumet Buckley, who is the daughter of Lena Horne, and the filmmaker Sidney Lumet, who won an Academy Award for his work and is known for directing iconic films such as “12 Angry Men,” “Network,” and “Dog Day Afternoon.” His mother is Gail Lumet Buckley. Isabel and Salvatore Cannavale are his grandfather and grandmother on his father’s side. Jake comes from a very unique and diverse multi-ethnic heritage that contains elements of Cuban, Northern European, Italian, Ashkenazi Jewish, Senegalese, and Native American ancestry. His mother is Cuban and his father is Italian.
Because “writing poetry or short stories had always been a passion for me,” Jake enrolled at the prestigious Emerson College in Boston so that he could pursue a career in screenwriting. It would appear that he was pretty confident in his decision to not pursue acting as a major. While he was attending college in Boston, he met Gene Meyer, who would later become his bandmate and partner. They went on to form a heavy metal band that went by the name ‘Piss.’ The two got to know one another at a student-organized stand-up comedy night.
Meyer, who was a senior at the time, was telling jokes about various types of metal. Cannavale, who was only a freshman at the time, approached him and started talking to him about music. That was the initial inspiration behind the band. Cannavale made his debut on film for the very first time when he was just 9 years old, making a cameo appearance in John Turturro’s high-grossing Hollywood musical ‘Romance & Cigarettes (2005). The musical featured his father, Bobby, in one of the roles in the ensemble cast.
His first real acting opportunity came his way while he was in the middle of his teens. He was cast as “Charlie Cruz,” a recurrent character in the medical comedy–drama “Nurse Jackie,” which has been nominated for many “Golden Globes.” He had roles in seven episodes of the critically acclaimed television series, for which he and the rest of the ensemble were nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award in the category of “Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.”
In 2015, when he was a sophomore at Emerson College, he took a leave of absence in order to make his debut on “Broadway.” His first performance was the comedy “Fish in the Dark,” which was written by and starred Larry David, the creator of the hugely successful television sitcoms “Seinfeld” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” In the production, he played the role of Rosie Perez’s son, and he brought a lot of different sides to the character.
Cannavale appeared in a number of short films between the years 2014 and 2016, including ‘Interior Teresa,’ ‘Grapes,’ ‘Fade,’ and ‘Send.’ Additionally, in 2017, he was a part of the film titled “Untitled Jenny Lumet Project,” in which he portrayed the role of “Keith.” Later on that same year, he was cast in the short film ‘Moths & Butterflies,’ in which he played the part of ‘Bumphrey Hogart.’ Recent reports have indicated that the movie is now officially finished.
In 2018, he contributed to an independent comedy series called ‘The Elevator’ by writing five episodes of the show and playing a cameo role in one of the show’s episodes. In the latter part of the same year, he also played the lead role in a short film titled “Limit of Wooded Country.” Cannavale has been kept pretty busy over the past few years as a result of his involvement in a number of projects that are now in various stages of development. The zombie comedy ‘Eat, Brains, Love’ and the drug-related drama ‘God. The Crackhouse and the Devil’ (in which he portrays a character named ‘Lonzo’) both had him in their pilot episodes. He has also appeared in the pilot for the television series ‘Misfits’.
In the 2019 ‘Hugo Boss advertising campaign for Father’s Day, Jake and Bobby Cannavale were featured, “posing in fitted suits, polo shirts, and no socks.” During the shoot, the young actor was asked about his father, and in response, he replied something along the lines of, “Something he taught me without teaching me was the importance of being genuine and being true to yourself.”
