Bio

Jackman was born in Sydney, New South Wales, on 12 October 1968, to Grace McNeil and Christopher John Jackman, a Cambridge-educated accountant. His parents were born in England and arrived in Australia in 1967.From his mother’s remarriage, he has four older siblings and a younger half-sister. When he was eight years old, his parents split, and his mother returned to England with his two sisters.

He attended Pymble Public School for primary school and then the all-boys Knox Grammar School on Sydney’s Upper North Shore, where he starred in the school’s 1985 production of My Fair Lady.

He attended a theatre course in his final year at the University of Technology, Sydney, to get additional credits. He graduated in 1991 after starring in Václav Havel’s drama The Memorandum.

He completed his education in acting by attending the Actors’ Centre in Sydney for a year and later went on to graduate from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts at Edith Cowan University in Perth in 1994.
