Guinevere Turner Bio

Guinevere Jane Turner is a well-known American actress, screenwriter, and director of films. She was born on May 23, 1968, in the United States. She penned the screenplays for the movies American Psycho and The Notorious Bettie Page, and she portrayed the dominatrix Tanya Cheex in the film Preaching to the Perverted, in which she also had a leading part. On the Showtime show “The L Word,” she worked as a story editor and also played the recurrent character Gabby Deveaux.

Turner is the eldest of six children and was born in Boston. He is the oldest. Elizabeth Hobbs Turner, the woman who was the woman’s maternal grandmother, served in the United States Marine Corps in 1944 while World War II was going on. Turner lived the first eleven years of her life as a member of the Lyman Family. She was brought up in a number of different communes around the United States, each of which had over one hundred people who were followers of Mel Lyman.

Despite the fact that Turner recognized that the Lyman Family had been depicted as a cult, she fought against the use of the word “cult” when referring to them. Turner was not reared by her mother in line with the traditions of the Lyman Family; yet, she and her younger sister were finally expelled from the Family after their mother decided to leave. This was due to the fact that Turner’s mother opted to leave. When she turned 18, Turner thought about going back to the band, but in the end, she decided to enroll in college instead.

Turner and the filmmaker Rose Troche, who was her partner at the time, collaborated on the writing and production of their debut film, Go Fish, which was released in 1994. Turner also had a starring role in the movie; she played a young lady by the name of Max, whose friends assisted her in meeting a new girlfriend named Ely, who was played by VS Brodie. The director Kevin Smith was a fan of the film, and in especially a scene in it whereby, in an imagined sequence, some of a character’s friends scold her for “selling out” and sleeping with a man.

Smith took this scene and used it as inspiration for his own take on a similar issue in his film Chasing Amy, which he directed and wrote. Chasing Amy and Smith’s subsequent film, Dogma, both feature cameo appearances by Turner. In addition, Smith modeled the character of Joey, played by Lauren Adams, in Smith’s Mallrats after Turner. Another one of her early roles was in the independent film The Watermelon Woman, which was directed by Cheryl Dunye and released in 1996.

Turner and I Have a Shot at It Mary Harron, who directed Andy Warhol, is also the writer of the screenplay for the movie adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ American Psycho, which Harron directed. Turner has a brief part in the movie, and in it, she makes the inside joke, “I’m not a lesbian!” in the context of the movie. Turner was not only a writer but also the story editor for the first two seasons of The L Word. In addition, she had multiple guest appearances on the show playing the role of Gabby, the screenwriter who was formerly Alice Pieszecki’s ex-girlfriend.

BloodRayne’s screenplay was penned by Turner in the year 2005. In 2006, it was one of the films that was considered for the Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Screenplay. She said in an interview that only approximately 25 percent of her screenplay was used by filmmaker Uwe Boll, which was included in the documentary Tales from the Script. She collaborated with Mary Harron, the film’s director, to write the script for The Notorious Bettie Page in 2005. Mary Harron also directed the movie.

In the movie “Charlie Says,” which was released in 2018, Turner and Harron once again worked together as screenwriters and directors, respectively. The web drama series FEED, which premiered in 2008 on AfterEllen.com and was directed by Mel Robertson, represented Turner’s first step into the world of web television. In the horror comedy film Crazy Bitches, which was directed by Jane Clark and also starring Nayo Wallace, Candis Cayne, and Cathy DeBuono, she had an appearance in 2014. Turner is the director of a number of short films, some of which, like “Hummer” and “Hung,” have been screened at a number of international film festivals.

A piece written by Turner in 2019 and published in The New Yorker under the title “My Childhood in a Cult,” the piece is about the author’s time spent growing up in the Lyman Family. When the World Didn’t End, the book that Turner wrote and published four years later, expanded significantly on the account of her childhood and continued on to the story of her adolescence spent in an abusive environment.

The book was described as “an affecting portrait of a bizarre childhood written with emotional nuance and bittersweet delivery” by Kirkus Reviews. A rich combination full of arresting imagery is found in the author’s work, which is thoughtful as well as vivid, and candid. Turner identifies as a lesbian in public. Both New York and Los Angeles are her homes at the moment. She is credited with co-writing the screenplay for the film American Psycho (2000), in which she also plays the role of Elizabeth, a character who is said to have attended Sarah Lawrence College. Sarah Lawrence College was Guinevere Turner’s alma mater, and she earned her degree there.

The Gwen Turner character from the 1995 film Mallrats was named after her (for further information, check the trivia section for Mallrats). She made an appearance in the music video for “Can’t Even Tell” by Soul Asylum, which her buddy Kevin Smith directed. During World War II, her maternal grandmother Elizabeth Hobbs, also known as Mrs. Turner, served in the United States Marine Corps as a member in the year 1944. Takes pleasure in crocheting. She knits hats, scarves, sweaters, and other apparel for the Griffith Park Bear, including hoodies.
