Guido Quaroni Bio

Guido Quaroni was born on November 9, 1967, in Monza, Italy. He is known for his work in all three of those fields. He has established a reputation for himself thanks to the significant contributions he has made in all three of these areas. In 2007, Quaroni made his way back into the production world when he was recruited as the supervising technical director for Toy Story 3. As such, he was in charge of supervising the departments that were responsible for the characters, environments, animation controls, surface materials, lighting, effects and rendering respectively. In 2010, Quaroni was given the responsibility of serving as Monsters University’s supervising technical director. In 2013, Quaroni was elevated to the position of vice president of software research and development.

Following an interview with Pixar at the SIGGRAPH convention held in New Orleans in 1996, Quaroni relocated to the United States in January 1997 in order to initiate production on Toy Story 2. In the beginning, he worked as the generalist technical director for Toy Story 2, and some of his responsibilities included modeling, articulation, shading, and special effects. In the year 2000, he was given the position of sequence supervisor, and his primary responsibilities in Monsters, Inc. were supervising the film’s dynamic simulations and special effects. After the production of the movie was finished in the year 2001, Quaroni moved on to the Software R&D department. There, he became the leader of the team that was responsible for shading and texturing the whole production pipeline.

In order to acquire his doctorate in Electronic Engineering, he spent the years 1987 to 1992 studying at the Politecnico di Milano, which is located in Milan, Italy. He began his career as a professional software developer in 1991 when he produced the initial version of solidThinking on the NeXT platform. Since that time, he has been working as a software developer full-time. The NURBS geometry type is utilized by the solidThinking program, which is a 3D modeling and rendering application.

In the month of January 1997, Guido Quaroni started his career in the animation industry by joining Pixar Animation Studios. The first two years of his time working on “Toy Story 2” were spent by him performing modeling, rigging, and shading tasks. After that, he began his work on the various special effects. Quaroni was eventually promoted to the position of sequence supervisor in the shooting division by the team that was responsible for the creation of “Monsters, Inc.” At that establishment, he made contributions to the fields of hair science and special effects research. After that, he continued his job on the Software R&D team, where he was the head of the asset/shading pipeline. Soon after that, he also assumed leadership responsibilities for the Production Engineering department.

The following year, in January of 2007, Quaroni was promoted to the position of supervising technical director on the film “Toy Story 3,” which went on to be nominated for an Academy Award. Quaroni was in charge of establishing the production pipeline and supervising the various technical teams that were involved in its development. In addition, he was in charge of managing the pipeline’s construction. In addition to that, he was in charge of detailing the numerous technical aspects that were included in the movie. In addition to that, he worked as the Supervising Technical Director for the production of “Monsters University.”

In May of 2011, Quaroni was elevated to the position of vice president of software research and development. In this capacity, he is responsible for the management of the studio’s graphics and animation programs, including the “Presto” animation program, which was awarded an Academy Award. In addition, Quaroni provided his voice for the role of Guido, an Italian forklift, in the animated film “Cars,” which was nominated for both the Oscar and the Golden Globe. Both “Cars 2” and “Cars 3” included Quaroni in his capacity as the voice actor for Guido, a part he had previously played.

After watching the short film Luxo, Jr. which was produced by Pixar, Quaroni started fantasizing about a future working in the animation industry. Because of his enthusiasm for computer science, engineering, graphics, and animation, it appeared to him that Pixar would be an excellent company for him to work with. Quaroni got his start in the software industry working for an Italian software company that produced graphics and visualization capabilities for NeXT systems. Quaroni occupied this role in the past, however, he has since gone on to his current position at Pixar.
