Cremins left Georgia Tech in 2000 with the best coaching win percentage in the school’s history

. Georgia Tech’s current head coach is Josh Pastner, who took over for Brian Gregory in 2016. Georgia Tech’s head coach until March 2011 was Paul Hewitt. He led Georgia Tech to a Cinderella season in 2004, helping to revitalise a dormant programme and earning the school’s second berth in an NCAA national title game in any sport.

That team won the Pre-Season NIT and ended Duke’s 41-game winning streak. They were also known as the Ramblin’ Wreck, Engineers, Blacksmiths, and Golden Tornado. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I athletics and the Football Bowl Subdivision feature eight men’s and seven women’s teams. Georgia Tech is a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Coastal Division. Georgia Tech’s official colours are tech gold and white.

Navy blue is frequently used as a secondary colour and for alternate jerseys, with black being used on rare occasions. In all sports, the in-state University of Georgia is the traditional rival. This rivalry is known as “Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate.” Out-of-state rival Auburn and official conference rival Clemson are also rivals.

The Georgia Tech Athletic Association, a private organisation based on campus, manages the athletic department. The department invests approximately $53 million per year in its sports teams and facilities. Todd Stansbury has been Georgia Tech’s athletic director since November 28, 2016, replacing Mike Bobinski, who left for the same position at Purdue.  Most athletic teams compete on campus, with Bobby Dodd Stadium at Historic Grant Field for football, the McCamish Pavilion at Cremins’ Court for men’s and women’s basketball, and Russ Chandler Stadium for baseball.

Tech finished 31-25 last season and won the Coastal Division of the ACC with a 21-15 league record. The Jackets advanced to the NCAA Tournament regional round. Coach Danny Hall’s team returns a sizable portion of its roster, including catcher Kevin Parada, who was named a preseason All-American after hitting a team-leading last season. Buzz, Georgia Tech’s official mascot, is dressed in plush to resemble a yellow jacket. Buzz enters football games when he hears swarming yellow jackets and then flips on the fifty-yard line GT logo. He then rushes the goal post, which he has been known to knock out of alignment prior to football games. Buzz is also well-known among Tech and rival fans for crowd surfing and other lighthearted shenanigans.

The Ramblin’ Wreck was Georgia Tech’s first official mascot. The vehicle is a 1930 Ford Model A Sports Coupe. Since 1961, the Wreck has led the football team onto the field at every home game. The Wreck has a gold and white paint scheme, two gold flags with the words “To Hell With Georgia” and “Give ‘Em Hell Tech,” and a white soft top. The Ramblin’ Reck Club, a selective student leadership organisation on campus, looks after the Wreck. following a touchdown,

Tech cheerleaders wave flags. The Ramblin’ Reck Club is in charge of upholding all school traditions as well as creating new ones, such as the SWARM. At basketball games, the SWARM is a 900-member spirit group that sits along the north end zone or on the court. This is the group known for its body painting, organised chants, and general fanaticism. The marching band, which performs at halftime and after big plays during the football season, is all white and sits next to SWARM in the North End Zone, creating a contrast of white and gold in the North End Zone. The band is also the primary student organisation on campus that upholds the RAT cap tradition, with band freshmen wearing the traditional yellow cap to all band events. Battle songs and chants

After every football score and in between basketball periods, the band plays the fight songs Ramblin’ Wreck from Georgia Tech and Up With the White and Gold. At the end of either fight song, there is a series of drum beats followed by the cheer “Go Jackets” three times (each time followed by a second cheer of “bust their ass”), followed by a different drumbeat and the cheer ”

Fight, Win, Drink, Get Naked!” The official cheer is only “Fight, Win,” but everyone else present, except the band and cheerleaders, will yell the extended version. It is also customary for the band to have 31 extra-base hits. Perfect Game’s list of the top 300 Major League Baseball prospects included seven Jackets players, including Parada. The ACC had five teams in the Perfect Game Top 25. The Jackets begin their season on February 18 against Wright State in a three-game series.
