Floyd Mayweather Jr. Bio

Floyd Mayweather, Jr., also known as Money and Pretty Boy, is an American boxer who was born on February 24, 1977 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States. He is known as one of the finest pound-for-pound fighters of all time due to his mix of speed, power, and technical brilliance. His nicknames include Money and Pretty Boy.

During his time as a boxer in the amateur ranks, Floyd Mayweather became known as “Pretty Boy” because of his spotless face. However, he concluded his amateur career on a disappointing note at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. There, he was defeated by Serafim Todorov of Bulgaria in the semifinals of the featherweight class and had to settle for a bronze medal.

Despite his success in the national Golden Gloves tournament in 1993, 1994, and 1996, he ended his amateur career on a disappointing note. On October 11, 1996, he made his professional debut and knocked out American Roberto Apodaca in the second round of their fight.

Despite the fact that his father, a former boxer, Floyd Mayweather, Sr., and his uncle Roger Mayweather, a former holder of the World Boxing Council (WBC) super featherweight (junior lightweight) and super lightweight (junior welterweight) titles.

Mayweather flourished. He won the WBC junior lightweight title on October 3, 1998, in his 18th bout by stopping veteran American titleholder Genaro Hernandez in the eighth round. Mayweather was also awarded the Fighter of the Year title by Ring magazine in the year 1998.

Mayweather has stepped up in weight four times, winning the Ring magazine lightweight championship and the WBC lightweight title in 2001, the WBC super lightweight title (junior welterweight title) in 2005 (after beating Arturo Gatti), and the Ring magazine welterweight title and the WBC welterweight title in 2006.

At the beginning of 2007, he was already largely regarded as the greatest pound-for-pound fighter in the world. He had won all 38 of his professional fights by knockout, making him unbeaten in his professional career.

However, Mayweather did not become well known to the general public until after he won the WBC super welterweight (junior middleweight) belt by defeating fellow American Oscar De La Hoya.

More than the fight itself, the four-part documentary 24/7 that was shown on HBO cable television in the lead-up to the bout was what helped to elevate Mayweather’s reputation. He emerged as an intriguing character with an ego that was on par with his skill and a propensity for being annoying at times and charming at other times.

He was a compelling figure. The fight between Floyd Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya was a huge financial success, shattering previous records for pay-per-view revenue and live gate receipts. In December of 2007, he made his comeback in the ring and knocked out Ricky Hatton, a British boxer who had never been beaten, in the tenth round of their fight in Las Vegas.

Mayweather won the award for Fighter of the Year for that year from Ring magazine thanks to his win against De La Hoya as well as the audience that turned out for this fight, which was another capacity crowd. Mayweather made the announcement that he was retiring from boxing in June of 2008, only a few months before a rematch was set to take place with De La Hoya.

There were almost eighteen months that went between Floyd Mayweather’s battle with Ricky Hatton and his return to the ring in September 2009 against Juan Manuel Marquez, a natural lightweight and fan favorite who climbed up two divisions to take the contest.

The majority of onlookers anticipated that the “retirement” would be a brief one; nevertheless, this was not the case. Despite Márquez’s impressive tenacity, Mayweather was granted a unanimous decision victory by the judges after the bout’s 12 rounds.

The buildup to Mayweather’s next scheduled fight, against Filipino sensation Manny Pacquiao, was marked by a great deal of excitement and more than a little gamesmanship.

Mayweather’s father accused Pacquiao of using performance-enhancing drugs, which led to a protracted dispute over the nature of the blood testing that would precede the fight.

Mayweather’s next fight is scheduled to take place on May 2. In May 2010, when the Pacquiao fight was on hold, Mayweather defeated Shane Mosley in a fight that was not for a championship and won by unanimous decision.

Mayweather’s next fight was against Victor Ortiz in September 2011, and he was successful in regaining the WBC welterweight belt, which he had previously given up when he retired. Mayweather knocked out Ortiz in a controversial manner, although the knockout was legal. Ortiz had approached Mayweather with his guard down to apologize for a headbutt that had occurred earlier in the fight.

Mayweather, who had received suspended sentences for two earlier instances of domestic violence, was sentenced to 90 days in jail and 100 hours of community service in December 2011, after pleading guilty to reduced domestic violence battery and harassment charges that stemmed from an incident that occurred in September 2010, in which Mayweather attacked his former girlfriend in front of two of their children.

The incident occurred after Mayweather attacked his former girlfriend in front of two of their children. In May 2012, just before to his incarceration, he fought against Miguel Cotto and emerged victorious by majority decision, so claiming the light middleweight championship of the World Boxing Association (WBA).

Mayweather’s time behind bars started in June 2012, and he was given credit for his good behavior and freed after spending just two months.
Mayweather’s next fight, which took place in May 2013, resulted in a unanimous decision victory against Robert Guerrero.

His subsequent two bouts were the ones that revealed potential weaknesses in the great fighter’s armor: Mayweather defeated Saul Alvarez of Mexico in September 2013 and Marcos Maidana of Argentina in May 2014 to earn majority decisions in both fights.

These victories marked only the second and third times in Mayweather’s career that he did not win a fight via knockout, unanimous decision, or retirement of his opponent. Mayweather’s other victories came by way of retirement of his opponent or retirement of himself. Mayweather and Pacquiao finally settled their differences and decided to fight on May 2, 2015, after years of speculation and on-and-off conversations.

Mayweather was the obvious favorite coming into the fight, and he lived up to his billing by controlling the most of the action en route to a win by unanimous decision. Mayweather faced off against Conor McGregor, the reigning champion of mixed martial arts, on August 26, 2017. Mayweather was guaranteed at least a $100 million purse for appearing in the fight, which resulted in the fight producing a huge financial windfall for both fighters.

However, boxing observers widely derided the fight as a publicity stunt, and they were validated when Mayweather easily defeated a fighter who had never before competed in a pure boxing match with a 10th-round technical knockout. After the fight, Mayweather made the announcement that he would be retiring from boxing with a perfect record of 50 wins and 0 losses.
