Finn Bálor Bio

Fergal Devitt is a professional wrestler who hails from Ireland and was born on July 25th, 1981. He is presently under contract with WWE, where he works under the ring name Finn Bálor on the Raw brand and is a part of The Judgment Day. Prince Devitt was Devitt’s ring moniker during his time with New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), which is where he got his start in the wrestling business in 2001. He gained widespread recognition during this time. A six-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion, he has won the championship twice with Minoru and four times with Ryusuke Taguchi, making him a three-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion and a six-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion. He is not only a founding member of the Bullet Club stable but also the initial captain of the stable.

He is a two-time champion of the Best of the Super Juniors competition, having won in 2010 and 2013. As a result of NJPW’s collaborative efforts with the Mexican promotion Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre, Devitt competed in Lucha libre matches in Mexico as well, where he won the NWA World Historic Middleweight Championship once. In addition, he competed in professional wrestling for a variety of indie organizations, where he won titles such as the ICW Zero-G Champion, the RPW British Cruiserweight Champion, and the NWA British Commonwealth Heavyweight Champion twice. After signing with WWE’s developmental system, NXT, and adopting his current ring name, Bálor won the NXT Championship. His reign of 292 days is the longest in the history of the championship, and it will remain the longest until March 2020.

Also when he was in NXT, Bálor became the first co-winner of the first Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic with Samoa Joe. This competition was held for the first time. Bálor became the first wrestler in WWE history to win a world title in their pay-per-view debut, the second-ever Irish world champion in WWE, and the quickest wrestler in WWE history to win a world title at 27 days following his main roster debut by becoming the inaugural WWE Universal Champion at SummerSlam 2016. Bálor also became the second-ever Irish world champion in WWE. Additionally, Bálor has won the Intercontinental Championship twice and the United States Championship once in his career. Devitt won his second British Commonwealth championship with a victory against Dru Onyx on October 8, 2005, in Nashville, Tennessee, at the National Wrestling Alliance 57th Anniversary Show.

Following the conclusion of the bout, both competitors were extended invitations to train at the New Japan Inoki Dojo in Santa Monica, California. Late in the year 2005, Devitt also started wrestling for the Millennium Wrestling Federation, which is headquartered in the United States. At the event Soul Survivor III on November 5, he made his debut in a match that was a triple threat, in which he challenged for the MWF Television Championship against the champion Eddie Edwards and R. J. Brewer.

In the bout against Osiris that was shown on the November episode of MWF Ultra, he made his first appearance on television. After making a favorable impression on a number of promoters and trainers, he was extended an invitation to train at New Japan’s main dojo in Tokyo. He accepted the invitation and started his training in the Japanese style of professional wrestling at the beginning of 2006. In March of 2006, he was defeated by Karl Anderson and lost the British Commonwealth Championship.

During the month of June 2007, Devitt competed in a tournament for the National Wrestling Alliance titled “Reclaiming the Glory.” The purpose of the event was to choose a new NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Total Nonstop Action Wrestling had held the title for a number of years, but in 2007 NWA ended its relationship with TNA, which meant that TNA no longer owned the belt. Devitt won the first round of competition by defeating the Australian wrestler Mikey Nicholls, but he was eliminated by Bryan Danielson in the second round. In March 2006, the day after Devitt was defeated in the British Commonwealth Championship match, he accepted a contract to wrestle for New Japan Pro-Wrestling. Under the ring moniker Prince Devitt, he made his first appearance for NJPW in April of 2006, competing against El Samurai.

Later, in an interview with PowerSlam Mag, Devitt said that he was nicknamed Prince Devitt by New Japan since no one in Japanese culture was able to properly pronounce his original name. It had been decided that he would be known as King David at first, but then many began to wonder why someone who was just 24 years old would be king already. In the end, it was Simon Inoki who suggested the name Prince Devitt, which was the moniker that Prince Devitt himself favored. After New Japan began conducting events that were unique to a certain brand in May 2006, Devitt was assigned to the Wrestle Land brand. He made his debut wearing a mask as the second Pegasus Kid, which resulted in similarities being drawn between him and Chris Benoit, the first Pegasus Kid.

At the tail end of August and the beginning of September, he embarked on a tour of New Japan, where he resumed fighting as his Prince Devitt alias while using a gimmick based on an Irish superstar. In the end, he betrayed his former allies and joined the Control Terrorism Unit in a position similar to that of an apprentice. When he was playing for CTU, he was on a losing run, which frustrated his teammates to the point that they did not want to have anything more to do with him.

Because of this, he was given one more opportunity on the 6th of October, during which he rose to the challenge and pleased his CTU colleagues to the point where he was allowed to continue working with them. Devitt paired up with the head of the CTU, Jushin Thunder Liger, to challenge Wataru Inoue and Ryusuke Taguchi so that he could strengthen his position within the stable. After a challenging mental workout, it was Devitt came up with the best solution for Inoue, which was a major plot twist. After that point, his membership in the CTU was acknowledged on an official level.

His run of success came to an abrupt stop in January of 2007, when he sustained a major knee injury that prevented him from competing in the ring in New Japan until the beginning of May of that same year. After recovering from the injury, he returned to the game and showed a significant amount of development. His other CTU teammate, Minoru, predicted that he would end up becoming the champion of the Best of the Super Juniors tournament in 2007.

Devitt, on the other hand, did not collect any points throughout the event that took place in June 2007, hence he was removed from the competition quite quickly. As a result of the dissolution of CTU in August 2007, Devitt and Minoru became members of the newly established RISE stable. They formed a tag team and gave themselves the moniker “Prince Prince.” This was a play on both Devitt’s ring name and Minoru’s nickname, “Black Prince.” During a tour of Japan that took place in November 2007, TNA wrestlers Senshi and Christopher Daniels were victorious against Devitt and Minoru, who were representing WWE at the time.

Devitt’s first major tag championship reign came when he and Minoru won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship on January 27, 2008. This was also Devitt’s first big tag title win overall. In February, they were defeated by Akira and Jyushin Thunder Liger, but on July 21 they were able to win back the championship and take home the trophy. In October, they were defeated by No Limit, who consisted of Tetsuya Naito and Yujiro, after having held the title for over three months.
