Felicity Rose Hadley Jones was born on October 17, 1983, in the city of Birmingham, England. The family’s father, Gareth Jones, was a journalist, while her mother, Julia Hadley, was in the printing and advertising industry. Her parents divorced when she was three years old, and she and her brother were raised by their mother in Bournville, West Midlands until they were older.
She attended Kings Norton Girls’ School before continuing her education at King Edward VI Handsworth School, where she received her A-levels. Following a gap year, she went on to study English at Wadham College, Oxford, where she graduated with an upper second in 2006. Her mother frequently took her and her brother to movies and the theatre when they were children, which gradually sparked Jones’ interest in the performing arts as an adult. She began taking acting lessons when she was 11 years old when she joined a play club at the Custard Factory.
During her college years, she appeared in a number of plays, including ‘Attis,’ in which she played the title character, which was released in 2005. On the summer tour to Japan, she also appeared in Shakespeare’s “Comedy of Errors,” which was performed by the Oxford University Dramatic Society. The relationship between Felicity Jones and Internet artist and sculptor Ed Fornieles lasted approximately 10 years after the couple met at the University of Oxford, in 2003.
After a ten-year romance, the pair decided to call it quits in late 2014. It was in 2015 that she began dating filmmaker Charles Guard, and the couple became engaged in 2017. On June 30, 2018, the pair exchanged vows in a private ceremony at Sudeley Castle, located in the Cotswolds in the English county of Oxfordshire. Felicity Jones is the niece of British actor Micheal Hadley, who is also a Felicity Jones fan. She was a huge fan of the BBC gangster series ‘Peaky Blinders’ when she was a child.
After-school workshop Central Junior Television, which was supported by Central Television, was where Jones got his start in acting when he was eleven. She made her television debut in the first season of The Worst Witch when she was fourteen years old. Jones returned as Hallow when Weirdsister College opened its doors in 2001.
For a period of time around this time, she was most known for her part as Emma Carter on the BBC Radio 4 soap opera The Archers, which she portrayed until 2009 (the role is now played by Emerald O’Hanrahan). The BBC drama Servants, in which she played Grace May, premiered in 2003. She starred in the 2007 ITV production of Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey and in Polly Stenham’s That Face, which premiered at the Royal Court Theatre in April 2007.
A number of films, including Brideshead, Revisited and Flashbacks of a Fool, and the Doctor Who episode “The Unicorn and the Wasp,” as well as a revival of Enid Bagnold’s play The Chalk Garden at the Donmar Warehouse theatre in London, were released throughout 2008. In January 2009, BBC One broadcast the five-part television series The Diary of Anne Frank, in which Jones starred as Margot Frank opposite Tamsin Greig (as Edith Frank-Holländer) and Iain Glen (as Otto Frank), in which Jones played the role of Anne Frank.
At the High Tide Festival in May of that same year, she participated in a rehearsed reading of Anthony Minghella’s Hang-Up, which had been written for her. Jones starred as Julie in the 2010 comedy Cemetery Junction, directed by Ricky Gervais and starring Stephen Merchant. Besides Soulboy, she also starred as Miranda in Julie Taymor’s big-screen production of The Tempest, which was released in 2012.
Jones was awarded the Special Jury Prize (Dramatic) at the Sundance Film Festival on January 29, 2011, for her portrayal as Anna in Drake Doremus’s Like Crazy, which premiered on January 29, 2011. Jones handled her own hair and make-up for the picture, and she improvised her lines throughout. [10] Comparisons were made between her performance and Carey Mulligan’s Academy Award-nominated performance in An Education.
At the 2011 Hollywood Picture Awards, she was also awarded the Best New Hollywood Award for her performance in this film. For the role of Chalet Girl, in which she co-starred with Gossip Girl actor Ed Westwick, she had to go through two months of snowboarding instruction and work secretly in a chalet at St Anton, scrubbing toilets and partying at the Krazy Kanguruh bar in order to prepare.
Jones described the job as “a breath of fresh air” after a succession of costume roles, and she expressed interest in taking on a comedic role in the future. At the Donmar Warehouse theatre in London, Jones appeared in Luise Miller, a new translation of Schiller’s Kabale und Liebe by Mike Poulton, which ran for two months in June and July 2011. Jones was raised in a Catholic household and attended Mass often to prepare for the role. Jones was introduced as the new face of Burberry in November of that year. She was also revealed as the new face of Dolce & Gabbana in November of this year.
Jones appeared as Ellen Ternan in the film The Invisible Woman, which was released in 2013. In spite of the fact that Jones was previously unfamiliar with Ternan’s life, she learned about it through research and expressed her understanding that she was “in for a challenge” when she decided to work on the film, citing the experience of director Ralph Fiennes and his “methodically done” performance as reasons for her decision.
Also in 2014, she co-starred in the film The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which was released on the same day. Felicia Hardy, Harry Osborn’s personal assistant, was played by her. Jones agreed to participate in the project because it was different from her prior work. Jones starred as Jane Wilde Hawking in the 2014 film The Theory of Everything, a biopic that chronicled the life and love of Wilde Hawking and the world-renowned physicist Stephen Hawking.
Eddie Redmayne played Hawking, and the film was directed by Steven Spielberg. Jones read the script in its entirety in one sitting after receiving it from her agency, and she expressed delight in the fact that it was a “love story rather than a conventional biographical.” Jones is set to star in the film. Despite the fact that Jones was used to waiting several weeks before receiving a response to an audition, the film’s director, James Marsh, offered her the role immediately following the audition.
Jones received assistance from Jane Hawking in preparing for the part, and they met with her. The performances of her and Redmayne have received a great deal of appreciation for the film. When Jane Hawking saw Jones, she was so taken with the representation that she questioned if it was her herself on the screen. In recognition of her performance as Jane, she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress, a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress, the Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Actress, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role, among other honors.
In February 2015, she was cast as Jyn Erso in the Star Wars stand-alone film Rogue One, which will be directed by Gareth Edwards and will be released in December 2015. Jennifer Jones’s agent recommended her for the role, and she appreciated the character’s search for identity, borrowing influence from Ronda Rousey’s moves in her own movements for the role.
The film was released in December 2016 to overwhelmingly good reviews and went on to gross more than $1 billion at the box office worldwide. Jones also appeared in the 2016 film Inferno, in which he played a doctor who assisted Robert Langdon in his escape. After accepting the part, she went on a research trip to museums and galleries to have a deeper understanding of her character. Jones admired the chemistry that existed between her and Tom Hanks’ roles, as well as the film’s overall complexity and variety.
Jones appeared in On the Basis of Sex, a biopic of United States Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, which was directed by Mimi Leder and co-starred Armie Hammer and Justin Theroux. The film was released in late 2018 and was directed by Mimi Leder. Felicity Jones has stated that she is “not interested” in seeing films that do not feature female characters.
The actress, who will next be seen in The Last Letter From Your Lover, spoke candidly about her film preferences and the history of filmmaking as a divide between men and women in an interview with Variety. In an interview with the PA news agency reported by STV, she said, “It’s just remarkable when you look back at the history of cinema, just how much of that has been dominated by a male perspective.”
“Even the idea of the director and the cult of the genius, which I believe to be complete nonsense, I believe to be complete nonsense. As a result, it was determined that only men were capable of fulfilling that duty. However, history demonstrates that the majority of things are not accomplished by a single person. “That is complete and utter nonsense.” “There’s usually a bunch of folks or just two people,” she continued.
Even Hitchcock had incredible support from his wife, which is one of the reasons he was such a talented director. “It was the two of them, but they were sort of written out of history,” says the author. As a result, the fact that we are now beginning to open up about this female perspective is amazing.” Afterwards, Jones stated that she agreed with filmmaker Sofia Coppola, who had previously stated that she “hates viewing films that don’t have any female characters.”
“My husband will suggest something, and I will reply, ‘Well, either there aren’t enough women in it, or there aren’t many women in it, and I’m not likely to be interested.'” A few years ago, you literally just had a handful of male directors to choose from, and there were only a handful of males in the globe that could even tell female tales, so your options were quite limited. It’s also interesting to note that, in the last several years, opportunities have suddenly and substantially increased.”
