Mirman received his degree from Hampshire College, which is situated in the western region of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
As a result of the university’s “design your own major” program, Mirman was able to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in comedy from the institution. As part of the defense of his thesis, he gave a stand-up comedy performance that lasted an hour. He was asked to deliver the commencement talk for the class of 2009 at the high school where he had previously studied. After giving the commencement address in Hampshire the previous year, he returned there the next year to do so again.

He also stated that the salary at music concerts is three times that of a comedy gig. In addition, Mirman participated in the Comedians of Comedy tour among other comedians such as Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, and Maria Bamford.
He also performed as an opening act for the comedy duo Flight of the Conchords, and he appeared alongside Andy Kindler and Marc Maron in the comedy show Stand Uppity.
