Emily Jean Stone, better known by her stage name Emma, is an actress who hails from the United States. Her roles as Wichita in the 2009 post-apocalyptic zombie comedy film Zombieland, Olive Penderghast in the 2010 adolescent comedy-drama film Easy A, and Hannah Weaver in Iárritu’s 2014 black comedy-drama picture Birdman, for which she got an Academy Award, have brought her the most fame. She also voiced the character of Eep in the animated film The Croods, which was produced by DreamWorks and released in 2013, as well as its sequel, The Croods: A New Age, which is scheduled to be released in 2020.
She is most known for her role as Eugenia “Skeeter” Phelan in the historical drama film The Help, which was released by DreamWorks and Touchstone Pictures in 2011, and for providing the voice of Ivana in the episode “Crushed” of The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. There was also a discussion about her on the episode of Bizaardvark titled “Paige is Wrong.” Stone got his start in the theatre as a youngster in a production of The Wind in the Willows in the year 2000 in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he was born and reared. Stone is an Arizona native.
After doing a few menial jobs on television, she was honored with a Young Hollywood Award while she was in the fifth grade. She has stated that “I made sure I achieved all As” despite the fact that she did not enjoy going to school. This is due to the fact that she had a controlling mentality. Stone believes that she suffered from panic episodes as a youngster, which led to a decline in her ability to interact socially with others.
She did seek treatment, but she asserts that her participation in theatre plays in the local community was what really helped her get over the panic episodes. She recalled the first time she had a panic attack, saying, “I was sitting at the house of a friend when it happened, and I believed the house was on fire.” I got in touch with my mother, and she ended up being the one who took me back home.
This pattern lasted for the next three years. On a daily basis at lunch, I would walk over to the nurse’s station and simply wring my hands. I would begin the day by inquiring about the schedule with my mother, and then I would follow up with another inquiry thirty seconds later. I only required confirmation that nobody would be hurt and that nothing would alter.
Since she was four years old, Stone has had an interest in acting; initially, she hoped to pursue a career in sketch comedy, but she then shifted her focus to musical theatre and attended voice training for several years. Stone has been interested in performance ever since she was a child. She made her first appearance on stage when she was 11 years old. A theatrical production of “The Wind in the Willows” with Otter as the character.
During the two years that the actor was homeschooled, she performed in sixteen shows at the Valley Youth Theatre. Some of these shows include The Princess and the Pea, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Additionally, she was a member of the Valley Youth Theatre’s improv comedy troupe during this time. During this time period, she traveled to Los Angeles in an attempt to land a part on the Nickelodeon show All That, but she was unsuccessful.
Private acting instruction was finally provided to her by her parents, who enrolled her in classes with a local acting coach who had a history of working with the William Morris Agency in the 1970s. Stone states that she was diagnosed with asthma during the production of Easy A when she was having problems breathing due to the condition. Her mother was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer in 2008 and underwent treatment for the disease, which was ultimately successful. Stone and her mother chose to memorialize the event by getting matching tattoos of bird feet designed by Paul McCartney.
This was done as a tribute to the song “Blackbird” by the Beatles, which Stone and her mother both love listening to. Revlon aired an ad using her as part of their campaign to raise awareness about breast cancer. In 2011, she made an appearance in a film that was a partnership between Star Wars and the organization Stand Up to Cancer and was intended to raise money for cancer research. Two years later, she participated in an event hosted by Gilda’s Club, which had a similar goal.
Between the years 2012 and 2014, she served as the hostess of the Entertainment Industry Foundation’s Revlon Run/Walk event, the proceeds of which go toward funding research on cancer in women. At the time, she was enrolled in the same course as the future Aidy Bryant, who would go on to star on Saturday Night Live. She developed a PowerPoint presentation that she named “Project Hollywood” with the intention of convincing her parents to let her move to California so that she could pursue a career in acting. The presentation included Madonna’s song “Hollywood” from 2003.
In January 2004, the two of them made the move to an apartment in the city of Los Angeles. She made her debut in a feature picture in 2007 with Superbad, and she got positive reviews for her participation in Zombieland. She attended an online high school in the time between her auditions for employment. Stone’s first leading part was in the adolescent comedy Easy A, which she played in 2010.
