A Polish father and an Australian mother of Irish ancestry gave birth to Elizabeth Debicki on August 24, 1990, in Paris, France. She is the oldest of three siblings, and she grew up with a younger sister and a younger brother. Both of her parents had dance backgrounds, and they actually met at a ballet. But when things slowed down for him in the ballet world, her dad found work in the theater industry instead. When Elizabeth was five years old, her family made the transition to a new life in Melbourne, Australia.
She credits her early introduction to dance training to the fact that both of her parents are professional ballet dancers. But as she matured, her focus moved from modeling to acting. In Melbourne, where she attended Huntingtower School, she excelled academically. After finishing high school in 2007, she received two flawless study grades in English and Drama.
As early as elementary school, she participated in school productions, and she always felt called to the stage. Despite her family’s wishes, she decided to pursue a degree in drama at the University of Melbourne’s Victorian College of the Arts.
They only had one week of film and television classes, she claimed, and the majority of the training they had was in the theater. She persisted, nevertheless, with her theater studies, and after earning her degree in that field in 2010, she joined the Melbourne Theatre Company. Australia’s Elizabeth Debicki has starred in numerous films, including The Great Gatsby and Tenet. She was born in Paris and relocated to Melbourne when she was five. Since both of her parents were ballet dancers, she considered following in their footsteps early on, but her interests evolved when she entered her teenage years.
Despite her family’s encouragement, she went to the Victorian College of the Arts to study theater instead of law. After graduating from the University of Melbourne, she immediately joined the Melbourne Theatre Society, which led to her first cinematic part in the 2011 Australian comedy film A Few Best Men. A little role in the 2013 Hollywood blockbuster The Great Gatsby was her big break.
As a result of her excellent performance, she was nominated for and ultimately won an AACTA Award. She has appeared on television in shows like The Kettering Incident and The Night Manager, in addition to the movies.
In the early 2010s, Elizabeth attended numerous auditions for film and television roles. Thankfully, it didn’t take long for her to make her movie debut. It was in the 2011 Australian film A Few Best Men that she first appeared on the big screen. Though her part was very minor, she was able to add a high-profile film to her resume.
In the same year, she learned that an agency was gathering audition tapes from undiscovered Australian performers for an upcoming film directed by Baz Luhrmann while she was rehearsing for a play with the Melbourne Theatre Company. She sent in her demo, was eventually chosen for further consideration, and was invited to Los Angeles. After a series of auditions, she was cast in Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby.
In the 2013 adaptation of The Great Gatsby, she portrays a wealthy socialite named Jordan Baker. She had a substantial part in the movie and received praise for her performance. Upon the film’s release, she became an instant celebrity in her own country of Australia. She earned the AACTA Award for Best Supporting Actress for her work in the film, and she was praised by critics.
Having gained attention for her role in a film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire, Vogue Australia featured her in a photo session in December 2012. A member of the Sydney Theatre Company, she made a notable stage appearance in 2013 as Madame in the STC production of The Maids. She shared the stage alongside such renowned actresses as Cate Blanchett and Isabelle Huppert. They gave her the best newcomer prize at the Sydney Theatre Awards for her work in the play. She also had a cameo appearance in the middle of the 2010s in the Australian drama series Rake. She also has the starring role in a short film called Gödel Incomplete, set around the same time.
