Norton sent a frameable letter to the New Yorker in July 1998, in response to a jibe in a review of a documentary about Courtney Love. Norton’s letter was in response to Daphne Merkin’s Endless Love, a piece about Nick Broomfield’s controversial documentary Kurt & Courtney (1998). The film, which is filled with speculation that Kurt Cobain’s death was murder rather than suicide, features a slew of Love detractors eager to air their grievances.
