Delta was born on November 9, 1984. Delta is the name Denis and Lea gave their daughter after hearing the song of the same name. Trent, her younger brother, is currently a professional football player. She attended Sydney’s Hills Grammar School through the 11th grade. She started taking music and drama classes and starring in commercials for the Galoob Toy Company when she was just seven years old. And next ensued a barrage of ads.
She signed with Sony Music at age 15, and her debut album, “Innocent Eyes,” rapidly became one of the best-selling albums in Australia. The album’s five singles were all number one in that country. After that, her career took off like a rocket, and she went on to have a string of No. 1 debuts on the Australian album and singles charts with every major release. The portrayal of young actor Nina Tucker on the Australian soap opera Neighbours propelled her to fame in 2002.
She has won three World Music Awards, nine ARIA Music Awards, and an MTV Video Music Award, and she has served as a coach for four seasons on the Australian edition of “The Voice.” Many people enjoy and praise Delta’s soprano voice and her pop and adult contemporary styles. She battled cancer as a child, and ever since she’s made it her mission to aid other people going through the same experience by doing everything she can to alleviate their suffering.
Delta Goodrem, at 13 years old, put together a 5-song CD with money she earned working in television. Glenn Wheatley, who manages talent, got a copy of the CD. After being signed by Wheatley, she released 13 tracks on Delta for Empire Records. The album was never released because of legal issues.
After playing Nina Tucker on the TV show “Neighbours” in 2002, her music career took off. Her piano ballad “Born to Try” had its television debut on the show and went on to become an instant hit, topping the ARIA Singles list. Hits “Born to Try,” “Lost Without You,” “Innocent Eyes,” “Not Me, Not I,” and “Predictable” from her debut album “Innocent Eyes,” which was released in March of 2003, all topped the ARIA Singles Chart.
Her second studio album, Mistaken Identity, was released on November 8, 2004. The album’s main song, “Out of the Blue,” peaked at No. 1 on the ARIA Singles Chart and at No. 9 on the UK Singles Chart upon its initial release. The single “Almost Here,” a collaboration with Irish singer Brian McFadden, peaked at number three in the UK and number one in Australia. A Little Too Late, the follow-up, also premiered in Australia, where it eventually peaked in the top 13.
Her first film role was in Hating Alison Ashley, a cinematic adaptation of Robin Klein’s children’s book, which premiered in March 2005. In April, she uprooted her life and moved to New York, wanting to start over in the United States. Around 80,000 people attended her concerts during her July tour, making it one of the best-selling local tours in Australia.
In March of 2006, she launched her most recent hit, “Together We Are One,” at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games. After partnering with Modest! Entertainment in June to market her music overseas, some of her songs quickly rose to the top of the Japanese download chart. In the fall of 2007, she released Delta, her third studio album. The album debuted at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart in Australia, making it her third straight No. 1 album there. The same year also saw the release of the singles “In This Life” and “Believe Again.” A second single, “You Will Only Break My Heart,” appeared in March of 2008.
In 2008, she focused all of her efforts on touring Japan and the United States to promote her CDs. In their respective countries, both “In This Life” and “Delta” were enormous hits. She did another tour to Australia in 2009. A concert DVD of the tour was released in September and rapidly became the best-selling DVD in all of Australia.
In November 2011, she became a member of the judging panel for the upcoming 2012 season of “The Voice” in Australia. She first returned for season two in 2013 and has subsequently made appearances in seasons three through five. The second song from her upcoming album, “Sitting on Top of the World,” was released in March 2012 and quickly rose to the top of the ARIA Singles Chart.
Her fourth studio album, “Child of the Universe,” was released in October 2012, and it debuted at number two on the ARIA Albums Chart. In June of 2013, she dropped her next single, “Heart Hypnotic. She auditioned for the Australian version of “The Voice Kids” that same year. In March 2015, she released the single “Only Human.” She returned to her role as Nina Tucker in three episodes of the popular TV sitcom Neighbors that year. “Wings,” the lead single from her upcoming fifth studio album, premiered in July.
It went straight to the top of the ARIA charts. On stage in Australia, she played Grizabella in “Cats” from October 2015 to February 2016. On May 6, 2016, the album “Wings of the Wild” released its second single, named “Dear Life,” in anticipation of the album’s release in July.
Delta Goodrem’s debut album, “Innocent Eyes,” is one of the best-selling albums in Australian history, having sold over 1.2 million copies domestically and over 4.5 million copies internationally. Her second album, “Mistaken Identity,” topped the ARIA albums list upon its initial release and has since been certified many times platinum. The book sold over 350,000 copies in Australia. Her third album, titled “Delta,” was the most successful of her career, topping the charts and being certified multi-platinum.
