David Thewlis Bio

On March 20, 1963, David Thewlis was birth in Blackpool, Lancashire, England, to parents Alec Raymond Wheeler and Maureen Wheeler (née Thewlis). His parents were married. His secondary education was finished at the ‘Highfield High School’ in Blackpool, also the name of his school. When he was a youngster, he had a passion for music and was the lead guitarist for the punk rock band ‘Doors 66.’

He even relocated to London to begin a music career there; however, he subsequently changed his mind and enrolled at the ‘Guildhall School of Music and Drama’ in London, from which he graduated in 1984. David Wheeler is an English actor better known by his stage name, “David Thewlis.” He is most known for bringing the role of “Professor Remus Lupin” from J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter” series to life on the big screen.

David Thewlis played Professor Lupin. In the movie “Naked,” he played the part of Johnny Fletcher, an antihero, his other significant role. He is a versatile actor because of the wide range of pieces he has played on various stages and screens, including live theater, television, and feature films. The scope of his talents and abilities extends well beyond acting alone. He has provided his voice for several characters in various animated movies and video games. In addition to being an author, he has also written and directed a few short films, and he has published a book.

He started his debut in the acting world by performing in supporting roles. In the first episode of his career, which aired in 1985 and was titled “A Taxing Problem,” he played the part of a robber in the comedy “Up the Elephant and Round the Castle.” In the episode of the iconic comedy Only Fools and Horses from 1985 titled “It’s Only Rock and Roll,” he also portrayed the role of “Stew.” In two episodes of “The Singing Detective” (1986), he had a recurring role as a soldier. It was in the year 1987 that David made his debut as an actor in the film industry. He played the role of ‘Joey’ in ‘Road’ and ‘Clive’ in ‘The Short and Curlies.’ The latter was a relatively brief movie.

Between 1988 and 1992, he appeared in various films and television shows (including roles as characters that occurred more than once). In addition, he had roles in theatrical works.
His career took off when he performed Johnny Fletcher in the film Naked, which Mike Leigh directed in 1993. This was the beginning of an era of incredible success for the actor. In addition, the portrayal earned him several accolades, including “Best Actor” at the “Cannes Film Festival,” the “Evening Standard British Film Award,” the “London Film Critics’ Circle Award,” the “National Society of Film Critics Award,” and the “New York Film Critics Circle Award.”

In 1995, he debuted as a writer and director with the short film ‘Hello, Hello, Hello,’ which earned him a nomination for the ‘Best Short Film’ category at the ‘BAFTA Awards.’ Additionally, this was the year when he worked with up-and-coming stars Leonardo DiCaprio (in the film “Total Eclipse”) and Robert Downey Jr. (in the movie “Restoration”) on separate projects.

The fantasy movie “James and the Giant Peach” was the first thing I worked on in 1996, providing my voice for the character “Earthworm.” The following year, he was cast as “King Einon” in the fantasy movie Dragonheart. The year ended with him playing the part of ‘Edward Douglas in the terrifying science fiction film ‘The Island of Dr. Moreau.’

In the film “Seven Years in Tibet” from 1997, he played the role of “Peter Aufschnaiter,” which put him on screen with another Hollywood star, Brad Pitt. In the following year, he portrayed the role of “Dan Starkey” in the low-budget film “Divorcing Jack,” for which he received a nomination for the “British Independent Film Award” in the category of “Best Performance by a British Actor in an Independent Film.”

Between the years 1998 and 2002, he was in several movies, playing roles such as ‘Knox Harrington’ in ‘The Big Lebowski,’ ‘Jason Kinsky’ in ‘Besieged,’ ‘Nesbit’ in ‘What Happened to Harold Smith?,’ ‘Freddie Mays’ in ‘Gangster No.1,’ and ‘Charlie’s Dad’ in ‘Goodbye Charlie Bright.’ During this period,

After taking a break from television for more than four years, he returned to the medium and performed the part of a dealer in the movie “Love Story” as well as the role of “Clov” in “Endgame.” In addition, he provided his voice for the character of “Hamilton Mattress” in the animated film of the same name. In the six episodes of the miniseries “Dinotopia” that he was in back in 2002, he played the role of “Cyrus Crabb.”

His subsequent project, which he also wrote and directed, was titled “Cheeky,” and it featured him in the role of “Harry Sankey.” (2003). In 2004, playing the part of ‘Professor Remus Lupin’ in the third edition of the ‘Harry Potter series, ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,’ garnered him unparalleled economic success.

In the same year, he received his first voice job for a character in a video game when he played ‘Lord Darius Crowley’ in ‘World of Warcraft,’ a position that he repeated in ‘World of Warcraft: Cataclysm,’ the third edition, which was published in 2010. Since he was nominated for the ‘Golden Raspberry Award’ for ‘Worst Supporting Actor,’ for his parts in the movies ‘Basic Instincts 2’ and ‘The Omen,’ 2006 may be viewed as a low point in his burgeoning career. This is because he was nominated for the award in 2006.

However, he made a triumphant return by repeating the character of ‘Remus Lupin’ in both ‘Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix’ in 2007 and ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ in 2009, with the latter film garnering the award for ‘Best Ensemble’ at the ‘Scream Awards.’ In the movie “The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas” from 2008, he had another riveting performance as “SS-Obersturmbannfuhrer Ralph.” His performance was very well received.
2007 saw the release of his first book, “The Late Hector Kipling,” published by “Simon & Schuster.”
