Having previously competed in the National Basketball Association (NBA), Levingston was a power forward in the past. During his time at Wichita State University, Levingston was a standout player. In 1982, the Detroit Pistons selected him in the NBA draft. The Pistons traded him to the Atlanta Hawks after he had spent two seasons with them. He would go on to spend most of his career with the Hawks.
“Fouling into” an NBA game was an uncommon accomplishment for Levingston, who was playing for the Hawks at the time. This occurred in the year 1986. During a game in which Dominique Wilkins and Antoine Carr had injuries, Kevin Willis, Scott Hastings, Jon Koncak, Spud Webb, and Levingston were both removed from the game due to fouls against them. Following the ejection of Doc Rivers, the Hawks came down to a roster of just four players.
By NBA Rule 3-I-b, Levingston, who was the last player to foul out, was permitted to return to the game. This brought up a player foul penalty scenario, which ultimately resulted in a technical foul for non-unsportsmanlike conduct being committed. Levingston joined the Chicago Bulls after spending six seasons with the Hawks. During his time with the Bulls, he earned two championship rings, one in 1991 and the other in 1992.
Because he was a member of PAOK, a team that competed in the Greek Basket League from 1992 to 1994, he was able to participate in the final four of the FIBA European League, which is now known as the EuroLeague. After making the transfer to Virtus Bologna in 1993, he went on to win the Italian Serie A championship in 1994. He was a member of the team. His return to the United States of America in 1994 resulted in his signing with the Denver Nuggets.
His career totals were 5,888 points, 4,307 rebounds, and 593 blocked shots. He retired from the league in 1995, having accomplished all of these things. In the year 2000, Levingston started his coaching career by working as an assistant coach for the Fort Wayne Fury, a basketball team that competed in the CBA. His tenure with the Dodge City Legend of the USBL in 2001 included serving as an assistant coach for the team.
Levingston was honored with the title of USBL Coach of the Year in 2002, the same year that he returned to Dodge City to complete his first tenure as a head coach in a professional league. In the same year, the Legends were victorious in the USBL championship game. Between the years 2003 and 2004, Levingston worked with the Harlem Globetrotters as an assistant coach. During the year 2004, he served as the coach of the St. Louis Flight of the American Basketball Association.
Levingston was appointed as an assistant coach by the Gary Steelheads of the Canadian Basketball Association in the year 2005. During that year, the Steelheads had their finest season in the history of the organization, even though they were defeated in the title game. There was a short period during which he worked as an assistant coach with the Kansas Cagerz in 2006. In November of that same year, the Gary Steelheads, who compete in the USBL, formally hired him to be their head coach for the 2007 season.
It was in the autumn of 2007 that the Oklahoma Cavalry of the CBA decided to terminate the employment of Micheal Ray Richardson. They decided to recruit Levingston to take his position. Levingston received a position as an assistant coach at Michigan City Marquette High School, which is located in the northern region of Indiana, in the autumn of 2011. The Rochester Razorsharks, who compete in the Premier Basketball League, recruited Levingston to serve as their head coach for the second time in 2012. For one season, he served as the coach of the Sharks.
The Detroit Pistons were the team who chose Levingston in the first round of the draft, which was his first appearance in the league. The Wichita State product, who stood 6 feet 8 inches tall and weighed 210 pounds, signed with the Chicago Bulls in 1990 after spending six seasons with the Atlanta Hawks. As Levingston said during his appearance on the Thurl Talk Podcast with Thurl Bailey, a former NBA player, he thinks that the Bulls signed him to assist Pippen with his physical game.
When Levingston remembered the situation, he said, “The Bulls brought me on board to beat up Scottie [Pippen] every day.”In addition, Cliff said that Pippen “understood” his duty, which was to “come in and rough” up the small forward. After that, they “left it on the court.” This led to Scottie being selected for the first of his seven All-Defensive First Teams, which he received in the year 1991.
In addition, the Bulls would win the first of their three consecutive NBA championships in the same year, with the GOAT Jordan serving as their leader. During the two championship seasons that Levingston had with Chicago, he worked close to thirteen minutes per game on average and finished with about four points and three rebounds. Levingston played his last year in the National Basketball Association (NBA) with the Denver Nuggets in 1994. Before that, he had spent two seasons playing abroad.
During his time with the Bulls, which was located in Chicago, Levingston won two NBA championships. He was a member of the Bulls from 1990 to 1992. During a recent episode of the Thurl Talk Podcast, which was hosted by Thurl Bailey, Levingston discussed his time spent playing with Jordan and Pippen. Both Levingston and Bailey spoke about the documentary series “The Last Dance” that is now airing on ESPN. The series is all about Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls.
