Christopher Peter Meloni, also known simply as Christopher Meloni, was born in the United States of America on April 2, 1961. On the NBC courtroom drama Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999–2011, 2021–present) and its spin-off Law & Order: Organized Crime (2021–present), for which he was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in 2006, he is most known for his role as NYPD Detective Elliot Stabler. In addition, he portrayed the role of Chris Keller, a prisoner, on the HBO drama series Oz, which ran from 1998 to 2003. More recently, he starred in and executive produced the Syfy series Happy!, which will air from 2017 to 2019.

He appeared briefly in the film’s sequel, Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, playing the role of The Grand Wizard. In 2005, he made an appearance on Episode 107 of the adult puppet show Wonder Showzen on MTV2, when he participated in a series of mock public service announcements aimed at educating viewers about the dangers posed by cooties. Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas included him in an uncredited part as a gay hotel desk worker.
Meloni made the announcement in May 2011 that he would not be returning for the upcoming season 13 of SVU because he was unable to reach a contract agreement with the show’s producers. It was decided that his character’s story should end with him handing in his retirement papers. Meloni made the announcement in March of 2020 that he would be returning his role of Stabler in the Law & Order franchise on a spin-off show that would be titled Law & Order: Organized Crime.
