Chloe Hooper Bio

Chloe Hooper was born on 17 November 1966. My children’s bookshelves collapsed, and their contents spilled out over the floor. Their pages include anthropomorphized animals engaging in activities like dancing, singing, and living their lives to the utmost. According to CS Lewis, “a children’s story is the best art form for something you have to say,” however none of these stories provided the information that we needed to impart to our sons, who are three and six years old respectively. Their father had recently received the news that he has an aggressive form of leukemia.

When I got home that night, I went to my computer and typed “children’s book” and “death” into a search engine. His prognosis was not good. My stomach turned at every new title that was revealed, and my heart began to race. We had not shied away from having conversations about death and dying with our children, but at the same time, we had not pushed the subject either. As I was clicking “Add to cart,” I couldn’t help but wonder whether one of these books would be willing to take up the discourse on our behalf.

I didn’t have to wait long before I pulled the packages out of the mail. I sneaked them into my office, where I discovered that the volumes were cumbersome and sentimental. as though my own uneasiness on this subject has resulted in a slew of embarrassing things being brought to light. Sweet tales, for example, concerning the demise of butterflies, accompanied by artwork crafted by a creative relative of the author. I hastily hid them away somewhere out of sight.

Joan Didion is credited with writing the famous quote “We Tell Ourselves Stories in Order to Live.” But we also tell ourselves stories in order to die. And I didn’t want to distract the kids with stories that were convenient for us, just to tell them things that were acceptable so that we wouldn’t have to think too hard. When writing for young readers, EB White dreaded the possibility that he would “fall into a cheap sort of whimsy or charm… He stated, “I don’t trust myself in this dangerous field unless I am running a degree of fever.” This was his explanation for why he didn’t go into the field unless he was sick.

I was looking for a book that was neither overly hot nor overly cool, not overly hard nor overly fluffy. A book that will hold us, either by keeping us in place or by keeping us all together.

When I read the same picture books to my sons that my grandfather had once read to me, I had a sensation similar to an embrace. My mind immediately went to the muted tones of the 1970s when I saw the vibrant colors in books like Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar, for example. Even though the novel was written as a reaction to loss, I might have been sitting on the couch at my grandparent’s house that was covered in gorgeous orange autumn leaves. It could have been a time when everyone I loved was still living, and I hadn’t experienced the pain of losing anyone.

Carle conceived of his brilliant opus as a remedy to the deprivations of a dark and war-torn youth when he was working on it. On the eve of the second world war, his mother, an immigrant who had settled in the United States but missed her native country, made the catastrophic decision to relocate her family back to Stuttgart. Soon after, Carle’s father, a man who taught his son about the beauty of stories and nature, was seized by the Russians as a prisoner of war, and Eric, who was 15 at the time, was conscripted to build trenches. Carle’s mother passed away while Eric was a young boy. Both of these events occurred around this time: the prognosis for my partner’s condition improved, and I stopped buying books late at night.

There is a bookstore that caters to children not far from where we live. The bookseller guided me in a considerate manner to the most helpful books for navigating difficult terrain. It turns out that youngsters are natural philosophers who are fascinated by the greatest mystery that life has to offer, which is death. Who knew that reading the appropriate book on the subject could be both educational and reassuring? I suppose that was the bookseller’s intention. But today I’d want to advise parents and other adults to incorporate early exposure to this subject into the literary diet of youngsters. Do not wait until your family is forced to address this conversation in extreme circumstances. When the inevitable difficult times occur, providing children with a framework within which to think about death offers them ballast.

I recently asked my seven-year-old and ten-year-old sons for their assistance in looking through a collection of picture books that dealt with loss and mourning. “You have these feelings inside of you that are haunting you,” my older son adds, “but if you can put it into words, you can let go of all that emotion. Chloe is a woman who has been married. She entered into wedlock with Don Watson. Even her spouse contributes to the written word. They have a son named Tobias, and their other son is named Gabriel. He was found to be suffering from an extremely uncommon kind of leukemia.

As of today, Hooper is between 48 and 49 years old. She was born sometime between 1973 and 1972. She was born in Melbourne, which is located in the state of Victoria in Australia. She has worked as a novelist as well as a journalist. Nobody knows what her zodiac sign is. There is no indication of her religious affiliation. Her citizenship is in the country of Australia.

Lauriston Girls’ School is where she received her secondary education and graduated. Both the University of Melbourne and Columbia University contributed to her education and awarded her a degree.2002 Orange Prize. A Child’s Book of True Crime was one of the finalists. 2006 Walkley Award. Won for her writings that appeared in The Monthly on the death of Cameron Doomadgee while he was in police custody on Palm Island.

Tall Manitoba was awarded first place in the Non-Fiction category as well as the Overall Prize at the 2008 Western Australian Premier’s Book Awards. Literary Awards for the New South Wales Premier in 2009 Tall Manitoba, which the author wrote, was awarded the Douglas Stewart Prize for Non-Fiction. The Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for the Year 2009 The Tall Manitoba Project Won the Nettie Palmer Prize for Non-Fiction. Tall Manitoba was one of the shortlisted indie books for 2009.
