Chandra Wilson, a native of Houston, Texas, began performing in musicals with Theatre Under the Stars at the age of five. The only thing I know is that as I grew up, I encountered stumbling blocks, and I always told myself, ‘If I ever get into a position to do something about this, I would like to so that nobody has to go through what I went through.’ My mother decided when I was four years old that she would not have an idle child in the house. So I started taking dance lessons on Tuesdays and Thursdays, then acting classes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and modeling on Saturdays. That was my childhood.
If I want to know how I’m doing at work, I don’t wait for a pat on the back; I ask the people who can give me a clear, objective opinion. When I need a real, arms-wrapped-around-me hug, I go to someone who can provide it. I stopped being disappointed by my expectations of non-huggers.
