Bio

Canadian actress, singer, and composer Carly Rae Jepsen. To say that Carly Rae Jepsen is one of the few superstars whose careers took off after their first public appearance is an understatement. The video for Carly Rae’s track “Call Me Maybe” became viral on YouTube. Across the globe, many agreed that this song represented a significant artistic breakthrough. Her song spent a considerable amount of time at the top of the charts in a wide variety of nations.

Famous people from all around the world were not beyond letting loose and dancing to the song’s catchy beat. There has been no stopping this pop artist since her breakthrough single. Not only did she leave an impression on Broadway, but this audience has evolved and remains devoted to her work.

Carly Rae Jepsen was born on November 21, 1985, in Mission, British Columbia. Alex and Larry Jepsen, both educators, had her and their second child together. Her parents and three siblings make up their close-knit group of six. Jepsen’s father used to sing her James Taylor’s songs before night, and those evenings influenced her to choose a career in music. In Heritage Park Secondary School, she began developing her talent and love for singing and acting in musicals.

As a student, she starred in many performances of The Wiz and Grease. Jespen graduated from high school and immediately began working low-paying jobs on Vancouver’s West Side. She was a bartender at the Media Club and a barista at Trees Organic Coffee, and she also assisted the pastry chef at Trees. She began composing songs in her spare time and singing them at dive bars that welcomed musicians.

She applied to many schools for a variety of music programmes and was accepted to study at Capilano University and the University of British Columbia. After much hard work, she graduated with the other 24 female students from the one-year program at the Canadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria, British Columbia. That is when she realized she wanted to be a musician, not an actress or dancer.

In 2012, Jespen dated another popular singer, Matthew Koma. While they were together for a while, the pair finally split up in 2014. Around time, she met and started dating the well-known photographer, David Kalani Larkins. The performer is also an outspoken advocate for homosexual rights. Jespen was encouraged to audition for the fifth season of Canadian Idol by her high school theatre teacher, Beverly Holmes, and went to do so in 2007 while putting together a swing band. She played her own song, “Sweet Talker,” which was influenced by folk music, and ended up in third place.

Jespen’s first release was a version of John Denver’s “Sunshine on My Shoulders,” released as a single in June 2008. Once her Idol tour concluded, she was signed to record labels Fontana and MapleMusic. After that, she focused all of her energy on working on her first album with producer Ryan Stewart.

Her breakthrough came with the publication of her first album, titled “Tug of War,” on September 16, 2008. Many credible sources claim that album sales in Canada exceeded 10,000. In the same year, both “Tug of War” and “Bucket” charted in the top 40 on the Canadian Hot 100 with her as the artist.

Even in 2009, when he recorded the duet “Sour Candy” with Josh Ramsay of Marianas Trench, Jespen was still having a lot of success. With Marianas Trench and Shiloh in tow, she continued on to western Canada for a tour. She has also been spotted joining Marianas Trench on his cross-Canada concert tour.

Her meteoric rise to fame was spurred by the 2011 release of the tune “Call Me Maybe,” which she co-wrote with Josh Ramsay, Ryan Stewart, and Tavish Crowe. This song became a worldwide phenomenon, reaching number one in 18 countries and propelling Canadian singer-songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen to the top of the Canadian Hot 100 for the fourth time. Billboard magazine named it the “Song of the Summer” after it spent nine weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States and garnered more than 950 million views on YouTube. A female artist’s best-selling single of the 21st century.

As Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez gushed over her tune, he revealed that his manager Scooter Braun had signed Jespen to School Boy Records, a record company connected with Interscope. In addition, the song became the first digital single by a Canadian artist to reach number one since Justin Bieber’s “Baby” in January 2010. Jespen released her second studio album, titled “Kiss,” in September 2012. The globe enthusiastically greeted this radio-friendly pop hit. It was certified gold by Music Canada after selling 289,000 copies in the United States.

Her newest album, titled “I Really Like You,” was published in March 2015. Tom Hanks, who plays Jespen’s father, was also seen lip-syncing along with Jespen. It charted in the top forty in both the United Kingdom and the United States. Her subsequent album, named “Emotion,” was a collaboration with Rostam Batmanglij (of Vampire Weekend), Sia Furler, Ariel Rechtshaid, Greg Kurstin, and Dev Hynes, and it reached at number eight in Canada and number sixteen in the United States, respectively. That was an appropriate homage to synth-pop music of the 1980s.

She took a vacation from being the “flower child of pop,” as she likes to describe herself, to make her imprint on Broadway. She was cast as Cinderella in the updated musical version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, and she gave a spectacular performance. Jepsen provided her voice for the 2016 animated picture Ballerina and appeared in the 2016 television special Grease: Live. These include “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” and “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” where she has made many appearances. Candie’s, a shoe and apparel company, signed her as a spokeswoman and endorsee in 2016.
