Brett Charles Young is a country pop singer, songwriter, and guitarist who was born in Orange County, California on March 23, 1981. He is a native of the United States. After suffering an injury to his elbow while playing collegiate baseball, he turned his attention to music instead. On February 12, 2016, Republic Nashville distributed his debut extended play, which was titled after itself and produced by Dann Huff. On April 11, the lead song, “Sleep Without You,” was made available to the public, and with his subsequent single, “In Case You Didn’t Know,” he achieved significant levels of popularity. In 2018, he issued his second major label album under the title Ticket to L.A., and in 2021, he issued his third with the title Weekends Look a Little Different These Days.
Young was born in the city of Anaheim, which is located in Orange County. He received his high school education at Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa, California. Following that, he received his education from Ole Miss, Irvine Valley College, and Fresno State. He did not begin his career as a singer until the late 1990s when he volunteered to take the place of a band leader who was unable to attend a Christian worship meeting held at his high school. Young pitched for the high school baseball team he captained to a championship in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF).
In 1999, he declined a pre-draft selection offer from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays as well as an offer from the Minnesota Twins and instead accepted a baseball scholarship at Ole Miss. He only played for the Rebel baseball team for one season in 2000, but he earned a varsity letter, notched two wins, and recorded two saves in that time. After that, he spent one season at Irvine Valley, where he earned a letter of recommendation, before heading to Fresno. In spite of this, he attempted to pursue a career in professional baseball in 2003, but he suffered an elbow injury that prevented him from doing so.
Young claims that after listening to Gavin DeGraw’s album Chariot, which motivated him to return to music, as well as singer-songwriter Jeremy Steele, he was inspired to get back into the music business. Independently, Young issued a four-song EP named “Brett Young” in 2007, followed by “Make Belief” in 2011, and then “Brett Young,” “On Fire,” and “Broken Down” in 2012–2013. Young relocated to Nashville after spending the previous eight years in Los Angeles. The Big Machine Label Group quickly became his record label home and did so in August 2015. In February 2016, Young released a self-titled EP that consisted of six songs.
In April 2016, “Sleep Without You” was presented to the public for the first time as a single from the extended play. Young collaborated with Justin Ebach and Kelly Archer to write the song. On January 9, 2017, the second single to be taken from the album “In Case You Didn’t Know” was made available for purchase and download. This song was Young’s first to reach number one on the Country Airplay chart, and it has been certified five times platinum by the RIAA. The song “As I Loved You” is the third single from the album, and it was released to country radio on July 17, 2017.
Young released his first studio album under his own name on February 10, 2017, and it was titled Brett Young. Dann Huff was the album’s producer, while Big Machine Label Group was the one responsible for releasing it. On the chart of the Top Country Albums, it debuted at position number two. Brett is currently on tour with his band, which consists of bass guitarist Noah Needleman, lead guitarist Keaton Simons, drummer Billy Hawn, and key guitarist/guitarist Matt Ferranti. Young released his sophomore album, titled Ticket to L.A., in the month of December 2018.
In September 2018, he collaborated with Ben Caver, Justin Ebach, and Charles Kelley to release “Here Tonight,” the album’s debut song. “Here Tonight” was written by all four individuals. In April 2019, it climbed all the way to the top of the Country Airplay chart. “Catch” is the second single from the album, and it was released to country radio on June 3, 2019. In April of 2020, Young released the track “Lady,” which he had written about his wife and daughter. “Lady” was inspired by his family. It is the first single released from his third studio album, Weekends Look a Little Different These Days, which was released on June 4, 2021.
This song acts as the lead-off single. In April of 2021, “Lady” climbed all the way to the top spot on the Country Airplay chart. The second single from the album, titled “Not Yet,” was released during the same month. However, it did not achieve the same level of popularity as its predecessor, reaching its highest position on the Country Airplay chart at number 37. As a result, it became Young’s first song to fall outside the Top 10, as well as his lowest-charting single to date. In November of 2021, a third single titled “You Didn’t” was made available for purchase.
Young announced the release of his Christmas CD, titled Brett Young & Friends Sing the Christmas Classics, in October 2021. Young popped the question to his longtime girlfriend Taylor Mills in February of 2018. On November 3, 2018, the pair exchanged their vows in Palm Desert, California. They made the happy announcement on April 6, 2019, that they are expecting their first child in the fall of 2019. On October 21, 2019, the couple welcomed their daughter Presley into the world. They made the happy announcement on January 27, 2021, that they were going to be parents for the second time in the summer of 2021. The 21st of July, 2021 saw the birth of their second daughter, Rowan.
