Brett Eldredge Bio

Brett Eldredge was born on March 23, 1986. At the tender age of sixteen, he was introduced to Brooks & Dunn, and he took his newfound love of country music with him to Elmhurst College in Chicago. Eldredge grew up listening to a wide variety of music, including that of Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, and Bobby Darin. From an early age, music had a significant role in his life.

Even at the tender age of four, I was already able to sing, as evidenced by this song. When I started singing the national song at family gatherings, everyone was quite patriotic. I would sing for a candy bar or five dollars. My entire body would shake with fear. When I was younger, my voice sounded much more mature than my actual age. “He’s got what they call the man voice.”

Eldredge was given a guitar and amplifier as a kid, but he didn’t start really good at it until he went to Nashville as an adult. Those “songwriter nights” he attended included “individuals on stage doing it, just them and a guitar,” he reflected later. At the end of the day, “after I got my hands on a guitar, I couldn’t get enough of it.”As one of his listeners put it, “I had melodies all over my head,” Eldredge believes that “studying singers works to my favor because it taught me how to word things.”

With the success of “Don’t Ya,” the album achieved three consecutive No. 1 singles. He won the New Artist of the Year award at the CMAs after releasing his first album, Illinois, the same year. Both the album and its lead single, “Lose My Mind,” were chart-toppers.

Just as bro-country began its prolonged fall in the middle of the 2010s, Brett Eldredge found his stride as a country vocalist with a passion for love songs. Eldredge had three consecutive number-one singles from his debut album in 2012 with “Don’t Ya,” “Beat of the Music,” and “Mean to Me,” but it was his romantic pop songs like “Wanna Be That Song” in 2016 and “Love Someone” in 2018 that kept him in the top ten for the majority of the decade. After moving toward the middle of the road with 2020’s Sunday Drive, Eldredge reverted to his sunny, cheery roots with 2022’s Songs About You.

Eldredge was inspired to study the singing techniques of country music legends like George Jones and Ray Price after seeing his cousin perform at Nashville’s Station Inn. Along the way, he started writing songs and playing at one of Nashville’s many “songwriter nights.” Producer/publisher Byron Gallimore discovered Eldredge and signed him to his publishing company, which encouraged him to keep making music.

Following a performance in Nashville, Eldredge signed with Atlantic Records and began recording his original music. In September of 2010, the radio played a song called “Raymond,” a sorrowful ballad about an Alzheimer’s patient. In 2011, Eldredge had a million-selling single with “It Ain’t Gotta Be Love,” and in 2012, he had another million-seller with “Don’t Ya,” which peaked at number five on the Country Singles chart.

Eldredge’s debut album, Bring You Back, includes the singles “Raymond,” “Don’t Ya,” and the soon-to-be-famous “Beat of the Music” and “Mean to Me,” among others. He was Taylor Swift’s opening act on her 2013 tour and Darius Rucker’s opening act in 2015. Eldredge’s second and third country hits of 2015 were “Lose My Mind” and “Just a Taste,” respectively, released in May and July of 2015.

Two tracks from his second album Illinois, “Lose My Mind” and “Drunk on Your Love,” peaked at #2 on Billboard’s Hot Country chart after its release on September 11, 2015. Glow, a Christmas album by Illinois, was released in October 2016 and reached No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100. Eldredge’s third studio album saw the release of its lead song, “Somethin’ I’m Good At,” in February 2017. Brett Eldredge topped the Country charts upon its release, and subsequent singles “The Long Way” and “Love Somebody” both achieved Top Ten radio success.

Eldredge will release an extended play (EP) in the spring of 2020 that will feature songs from his upcoming fourth studio album, Sunday Drive, including the hit “Gabrielle.” By the time the album was published in July, “Gabrielle” had reached the top 27 on Country Airplay. The song reached number five on Billboard’s Country Charts and number forty-two on Billboard’s Top 200. His Christmas record, simply named Mr. Christmas, was released that year in October. Eldredge’s 2022 album Songs About You has his upbeat persona returning.
