Bobby Berk was born on 25 August 1981. Bobby moved from Missouri to Texas to Colorado at a young age, where he swiftly matured and followed his burgeoning interest in interior design. The next twenty years of his life were spent in New York, where he worked tirelessly in the retail industry. Berk started his career at Bed Bath & Beyond and Restoration Hardware, and because of his hard work, keen artistic vision, and genuine interest in people, he is now the Creative Director of Portico Home + Spa.
Berk launched his own business in 2006, with a storefront in the financial district of Manhattan. Years later, in 2015, he opened his custom interior design business to the public, serving customers in the residential, commercial, and hospitality sectors. In addition to the meteoric rise of the Bobby Berk brand, the Netflix series he created, Queer Eye, has been nominated for numerous awards and won three Emmys. Bobby, one of the fab five and the show’s resident designer works to improve people’s lives by showing them that a happy house can lead to a happy existence.
Now in its fourth season, Queer Eye has become one of Netflix’s most popular shows, with repeats airing in more than 100 territories. Queer Eye continues to “question social norms — even, in its best moments, the Fab Five themselves,” and the show has been called “earnest and adorable.” Bobby is the face of a multifaceted business that he also manages, including the lifestyle hub BobbyBerk.com. Bobby is one of the “most prominent interior designers working today,” according to Architectural Digest, and his firm has quickly risen to the top of the home construction market.
Bobby exemplifies the vital links between design and life and has been called a “superpower for transforming lives and living places” by the Los Angeles Times. In addition, he offers a fresh perspective to the field of design because of his extensive background in several areas of the industry. Bobby has lectured all over the world on a wide variety of issues thanks to his significant experience in the retail, manufacturing, interior design, and licensing industries.
Bobby moved about frequently as a child, from Missouri to Texas to Denver, and then finally settled in New York City when he was in his twenties. His interest in interior design led him to pursue a career in retail, where he eventually rose through the ranks at major stores including Bed Bath & Beyond and Restoration Hardware. Bobby worked tirelessly to become Portico Home + Spa’s Creative Director thanks to his dedication, keen artistic eye, and genuine interest in people.
Bobby founded his own company in 2006, and the following year he erected a storefront in lower Manhattan with plans to take the business worldwide. Years later, in 2015, he opened his custom interior design business to the public, serving customers in the residential, commercial, and hospitality sectors. In 2019, Bobby worked with A.R.T. Furniture to design a unique collection of bedroom, dining room, and living room furniture that aims to alter spaces and provide joy to their owners. Designer of a widely recognized name in home furnishings and interior design. In 2018, he made his first appearance as one of the Fab Five on Netflix’s Queer Eye reboot.
In 2003, he uprooted his life to become an interior designer in the Big Apple. In 2006, he introduced his eponymous line of home goods and clothing to the market. In 2017, he took home the top honor for interior design from the National Association of Home Builders. He also took home Houzz’s Best of Design honor for 2017. In 2018, he co-starred with Karamo Brown on the Netflix series revival, Queer Eye.
At the age of 15, he ran away from home and never returned. After two years, he moved to Denver and worked odd jobs in stores and restaurants to support himself. I wasn’t able to pursue a career in design when I was younger because of financial constraints.
After relocating to New York City, Berk found work at Restoration Hardware. After two months at Bed, Bath & Beyond, which he describes as “the worst job I’d ever had,” an Italian linen manufacturer engaged him to help with their expansion into the American market. Yet even that job didn’t last long, either. They thought the US market was just like the Italian market, therefore they battled him on everything he tried to help them with, he says.
Berk’s time in the company was short-lived, and he eventually left. But the best part was that they made for Portico, he recalls, and when the Portico owner found out that he was losing his employee, he said, “Hey, come work for me.” The home furnishings company had been in decline for years, but Berk persisted since the owner had promised to make him a partner when the business improved.
With Bobby Berk’s relocation to New York City in 2003, both Restoration Hardware and Bed, Bath & Beyond have employed him. Afterward, he worked for Portico, an elite home furnishings firm, where he rose to the position of creative director despite lacking a high school diploma or any formal education whatsoever.
In 2006, Berk opened up a shop selling home goods online under the name Bobby Berk Home. His first store opened in SoHo, Manhattan, a year later, and he quickly expanded to open additional locations. He then started the interior design firm Bobby Berk Interiors + Design.
