William James Pullman was one of seven children who were born to Johanna (Blaas), a nurse, and James Pullman, a doctor. William James Pullman was born in Hornell, New York. His mother is from the Netherlands, while his father is of English, Northern Irish, and Scottish origin. After graduating from high school, Bill enrolled in SUNY Delhi in New York to pursue a degree in the building construction field.
He eventually earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater from the State University of New York College at Oneonta, after transferring there. These films were “Ruthless People” with Danny DeVito and Bette Milder, “Spaceballs” by Mel Brooks, and “The Accidental Tourist,” which was nominated for an Academy Award and won for Best Supporting Actress Geena Davis.
Still interested in the craft of building and the academic study of architecture, Bill has created and/or renovated the following three “barns”: In Montana, he and his family live in a barn that was built in 1933 that was turned into a house. He constructed a Truss barn in Los Angeles, modeled after the fruit storage barns that were common in the area in the year 1910.
Near his hometown of Hornell, New York, in the western part of the state of New York, he renovated a barn with three separate stables, one of which is now used as a community center. Pullman has established himself mostly via his involvement with the communities that he lives in, as opposed to the charities and organizations that are rooted on the entertainment industry.
Through his work on the board of directors at Cornerstone Theater, he strives to bring the neighborhoods of Los Angeles together. Pullman and his neighbors, who came together to establish “Concerned Citizens Montana,” are continuing their efforts to ensure that they have a seat at the table when discussing the need for a smart grid at the national level for the transfer of electricity.
In addition to this, he is involved with the community’s university (Alfred University, located in New York) and provides assistance for the community’s health services (“The Pullman Women’s Health and Birthing Center” located at St. James Hospital in Hornell, New York). Pullman also serves as an Ambassador for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
