Angela Featherstone is a child advocate as well as an actor, writer, and director from Canada. She works to improve the lives of children who are placed in foster care. She spent her childhood in the Canadian provinces of Nova Scotia and Manitoba. Featherstone became Canada’s most successful model within a year of becoming an independent adult at the age of 17 when her cover of the September issue of Flare Magazine shattered all sales records previously held by the publication. She rapidly built upon her success and moved to New York, where she signed with the prestigious Click models and subsequently would be one of the first models signed to Next. She also quickly became one of the most successful models in the world.
In the 1980s, she had a successful career as a fashion model, which allowed her to travel the globe. She became known for her versatility as an actor when she accepted parts that were completely unsuited to her outstanding physical appearance. Her roles as the Maid on Seinfeld, Chloe on Friends, and Linda, the fiancee who walked out on Adam Sandler’s character Robbie at the altar in The Wedding Singer brought her the most fame. Her most recent roles were on the television shows Ray Donovan and Girls, where she portrayed the character Jame.
In addition to writing nonfiction for publications such as Time, Jane, Flare, Huffington Post, Dame, and Zoomer, Featherstone has produced comedies for the television networks Sony, DreamWorks, and NBC. Her piece titled “God Said No,” which is about the traumatic experiences she had as a kid, was published in the 2014 issue of Gargoyle Magazine and was nominated for the Pushcart Prize. ‘Forgiveness’ was an article that she wrote and published in Dame magazine in 2021. In 2022, Featherstone made her directorial debut with the short film ‘L’Étranger,’ which lasted for just seven minutes.
As a director, she combines her years of experience in fashion as a model; working with prominent photographers and magazines such as Italian, French, and American Vogue, Mademoiselle, Seventeen, Sassy, Harpers Bazaar Italia, Grazia, Harpers & Queens, Albert Watson, Bruce Weber, Irving Penn; her love of cinema and decades in the film industry; a refined sense of story as an often published essayist; her passion for philosophy; and love of As a devoted supporter of children who are placed in foster care, Featherstone volunteered with the Children’s Action Network to serve as the curator of their Heart Gallery from 2011 until 2019 and also worked as a committee member for their Winter Wonderland event in 2014 and 2015. In addition to that, she served as a role model for a child who was placed in foster care by Kidsave during the years 2011 and 2020.
Fosteringcare.org, a non-profit healing school for children and teenagers who are about to age out of foster care, was established by her in 2021. She, along with the founding board members, has high hopes that the intense trauma-healing program and the healing-trade program will have an effect on the harrowing statistics that pertain to this particularly vulnerable population.
She gave a presentation on “Violence Within the Home and its Effects on Children” at the ICAN Nexus Conference in the year 2014. She often gives talks and writes articles on topics related to recovery from post-traumatic stress disorder, child abuse, human trafficking, and intimacy. Her article on child sex trafficking, which she wrote for DAME in 2015, was picked up by Salon.com and MSN, which brought it to the attention of nearly seven million visitors. The year 2022 will mark the beginning of her thirteenth year of study with Rabbi Mordecai Finley, Ph.D. in moral and spiritual psychology. Cracked Up is a Netflix documentary on the impact of trauma and how people may recover from it. Featherstone recently worked as a consultant on the project. According to what Featherstone told Yahoo Life, “I would characterize the first 16 years of my life as being abusive physically, emotionally, psychologically, and in the end, sexually abusive.” “There was, at the very least, criminal neglect on a consistent basis, as well as a significant amount of abandonment.”
Featherstone, a native of Nova Scotia, was placed in the foster care system in Canada when she was 16 years old. This event had a profound impact on her life and, in many respects, made her trauma more severe. She is the creator of Fostering Care, a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to healing young people (18-21) who are aging out of the foster care system. Today, she is an outspoken champion for children who are currently in the system. The training consists of a course that lasts for three months, and at the end of that time, students will have earned a teaching certificate in a healing modality such as yoga, meditation, or breathwork.
In addition, the program provides participants with opportunities to attend guest lectures on a variety of topics related to life skills and subjects such as nutrition and drug dependency. Featherstone has personal experience and can attest to the importance of these therapeutic resources for foster youth who are making the transition from childhood to adulthood. She remembers being placed in a group home when she was 16 years old, where she was exposed to sexual activity, violence, and drug use, and where she was deprived of proper nutrition and care. “I continued on being placed in these group homes, and I persisted in escaping because I despised living in the group homes. According to Featherstone, “They were exceptionally awful, and I did not feel safe there; as a result, I kept leaving.” “That is my first reaction that was caught on tape. I also did the thing with “Forgetful Lucy,” in which Drew Barrymore screamed out the pair’s musically similar conversation from the movie 50 First Dates.
Sandler chose The Wedding Singer in response to Barrymore’s request that he choose one of the actor’s films to encapsulate in time. He also recalled their first meeting. “There was a time when this young lady and I worked in the same space. Our first conversation took place at the Newsroom Café. She walked in looking chic with her hair dyed a light shade of red.”
He continued by making a reference to the movie The Wedding Singer and saying, “She came in, we jammed on a movie idea, we got together, we shot it, and we had the best time ever.” In March of 2019, Barrymore revealed that among all of the co-stars she has worked with in movies and television shows, there is one person who stands out as particularly memorable. During the premiere of the third season of her Netflix series Santa Clarita Diet, she gave an exclusive interview to PEOPLE in which she discussed her favorite actor and stated, “Adam Sandler, obviously, just because I want to make movies with him forever.” However, once she was out in public, she discovered that she faced even more sinister dangers. She attended the UCLA Extension Writer’s Program “Personal Essay & Memoir,” and she is currently finishing up her memoir.
