Andy Biersack Bio

Andrew Dennis Biersack is an American singer who was once known by the stage name Andy Six. He was born on December 26, 1990. He started the rock band Black Veil Brides and is the band’s lead vocalist. He is also the only original member of the band that is still active. Under the stage name Andy Black, he launched his first solo music project in 2014, and two years later, he issued his debut studio album, titled The Shadow Side.

Biersack’s parents, Chris and Amy Biersack raised him in Cincinnati, Ohio, in the United States. Biersack received his early schooling at a Catholic elementary school, an experience about which he has provided details in multiple interviews. Jamie Peters, who was his preschool teacher, was a significant contributor to the development of his imaginative side. At school, Biersack was the focus of bullies due to the way he dressed and the music he listened to (such as Kiss, the Misfits, Avenged Sevenfold, the Damned, the Dropkick Murphys, and so on). In the music video for “Knives and Pens”, performed by his band Black Veil Brides, a recreation of this bullying can be seen.

Biersack received his secondary education from the School for Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati, where he focused his studies on acting and vocal music. Two days after he turned 18, he dropped out of school before graduating in order to relocate to Los Angeles in the expectation of advancing his possible career there. When Andy Biersack was only 14 years old, he and a couple of his close friends established their first band and gave themselves the name “Biersack” (even though they only performed one gig). This endeavor ultimately developed into what would become known as Black Veil Brides at a later time.

Black Veil Brides became a member of the roster of the independent record label StandBy Records in September 2009. Almost immediately, the planning process for a tour as well as a record got underway. They made their debut with the music video for “Knives and Pens” in 2009, and to this day it has received more than 200 million views on YouTube. “On Leather Wings” was the name of the band’s debut tour in the United States. We Stitch These Wounds, the band’s self-titled first album, was released on July 20, 2010, and within its first week of availability, it sold more than 13,000 copies.

As a result, it debuted at position No. 36 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and at position No. 1 on the Billboard Independent chart. On June 14, 2011, Lava Music and Universal Republic Records distributed the band’s second studio album, titled Set the World on Fire. On January 8, 2013, the band’s third studio album, titled Wretched and Divine: The Story of the Wild Ones, was made available for purchase. On October 27, 2014, they released their fourth album, which was titled Just Themselves.

On January 12, 2018, they released their fifth studio album titled Vale. In order to commemorate the ten-year milestone of the release of their debut album, We Stitch These Wounds, the band issued a re-recording of the album under the title Re-Stitch These Wounds on July 31, 2020. This was followed by the release of their sixth studio album, The Phantom Tomorrow, on October 29, 2021. Biersack disclosed in May 2014 to the magazine Kerrang! that he has been working on new music outside of the band Black Veil Brides under the alias “Andy Black.”

He indicated that the music of his solo project will be very dissimilar to that of the band and that he didn’t believe he could achieve the sound he wanted inside the context of the band, which is why he decided to pursue it as a solo artist. Andy’s passion for ’80s synth and goth music served as the driving force for the creation of this project. He will be collaborating with John Feldmann, a producer who formerly worked with Black Veil Brides.

He informed his followers that despite this initiative, this does not mean that this is his primary priority, but rather that this is more of a hobby or a side-project for him. On May 19, 2014, he released his first single, which was named “They Don’t Need to Understand,” along with a music video via Hot Topic. The song was made available online. On March 17, 2016, Biersack said that his first album under the Andy Black moniker will be titled The Shadow Side and that it will be released on May 6, 2016. We Don’t Have to Dance, the lead single from the project, was released on March 18, 2016, while the music video for the song was released on March 21, 2016.

Biersack made the announcement about his second album, titled The Ghost of Ohio, on February 15, 2019. The album was released on April 12, 2019. On the same day, the album’s lead song, titled “Westwood Road,” was made available. After relocating to Los Angeles, he tried his hand at acting for a while at that time. Both the “Confetti” commercial for AT&T and the “Jumped” advertisement for Montana Meth featured him in cameos of varying sizes. Biersack makes a cameo appearance in the web series Average Joe, which is produced by Funny or Die and hosted on YouTube.

In addition, he had a role in the feature-length film Legion of the Black, which was produced by Black Veil Brides and released on January 6, 2013, to coincide with the release of the band’s third studio album. Alongside Ben Bruce, a member of the band Asking Alexandria, Biersack was chosen to play the character of Johnny Faust in the supernatural thriller film American Satan, which began production in February of 2016. On October 13, 2017, the movie that Sumerian Records founder Ash Avildsen also directed was made available to the public.

In conjunction with Z2 Comics, Biersack is the author of the graphic novel Ghost of Ohio, which is a work of supernatural historical fiction. On April 19, 2019, the graphic novel was made available to the public as a tie-in to the release of the album The Ghost of Ohio. Together with veteran writer Ryan J. Downey, Biersack created the book They Don’t Need to Understand: Stories of Hope, Fear, Family, Life, and Never Giving In, which was published in December 2020.
