Bio

American actor Aaron Eckhart, who also performs on stage, gained worldwide recognition in 2000 for his role in the hugely popular movie “Erin Brockovich.” Following his portrayal of Nick Naylor in “Thank You for Smoking,” he rose to greater fame. It is difficult to realize that he was once a struggling, unemployed actor who barely managed to make ends meet. Instead, he is a highly well-known figure today with a long list of critically acclaimed performances to his credit. Since he had always been interested in performing, he quit school to work at the Warringah Mall movie theatre. He finally went back to school and finished with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in film.

Despite his attractiveness and talent, he struggled for years to establish a lucrative acting career. When he was given the opportunity to play George in the movie “Erin Brockovich,” his career took a turn for the better and received a much-needed boost. He attracted attention for his striking appearance and outstanding talent, which led to an influx of film offers, and he quickly made a name for himself in Hollywood as a dependable character actor.

He played Jeff Skiles in the 2016 movie “Sully,” which was one of his most recent roles. Mary Martha Eckhart, a poet and children’s book author, and James Conrad Eckhart, a computer executive, welcomed Aaron Edward Eckhart into the world on March 12, 1968, in California. He comes from a mixed-ancestry family and has two older brothers. Aaron Eckhart relocated to New York City after receiving his degree but initially had difficulty securing substantial acting roles, only landing modest parts in TV shows or advertisements. He performed a variety of additional jobs to make ends meet, including the bus driver, bartender, and construction worker.

When the director/writer Neil LaBute, who was already familiar with Eckhart, gave him a role in the movie version of LaBute’s stage play “In the Company of Men,” he experienced a small breakthrough. In his first movie, Eckhart garnered positive reviews for his portrayal of a disgruntled office worker.

He portrayed a sexually dissatisfied man entrapped in an unhappy marriage in LaBute’s 1998 black comedy “Your Friends & Neighbors,” another of the director’s works. He performed as Nick in “Thursday” the same year. In the drama movie “Rabbit Hole” from 2010, he co-starred alongside Nicole Kidman as Howie, a young father who must cope with the loss of his newborn kid.

The film received favorable reviews. Eckhart was chosen by Kidman herself to portray her spouse in this film. For his portrayal of Chad in “In the Company of Men,” Aaron Eckhart won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Debut Performance and the Satellite Award for Outstanding New Talent in 1997.

Eckhart received nominations for “Thank You For Smoking” for both the St. Louis Gateway Film Critics Association Award for Best Actor and the Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead.

He received the Best Acting Ensemble Award from the Central Ohio Film Critics Association in 2008. “The Dark Knight” won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Cast. He was nominated for three awards in the same year: the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor, the Scream Award for Best Villain, and the Broadcast Film Critics Association Award for Best Cast. He received nominations for his performances in the movies “Rabbit Hole” and the Independent Spirit Award in 2010 for Best Male Lead and Best Actor, respectively.

Aaron Eckhart starred in Jonathan Liebesman’s epic military science fiction war movie “Battle: Los Angeles” in 2011. He portrayed a retiring Marine Staff Sergeant named Michael Nantz who was forced to return to duty in order to command a platoon of American Marines and a sergeant from the U.S. Air Force during a massive extraterrestrial invasion.

Aaron Eckhart didn’t experience his first taste of mainstream success until 2000. In the critically acclaimed biographical film “Erin Brockovich,” which starred Julia Roberts, he portrayed George. After playing this role, he started to find it easier to land significant offers.

Aaron Eckhart had a very fruitful year in 2006. He played Sgt. Lee Blanchard in the murder thriller movie “The Black Dahlia” and Nick Naylor in the comedy-drama “Thank You for Smoking.” He was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for his work in the earlier film.

In the superhero criminal thriller movie “The Dark Knight” from 2008, which also starred Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne and Heath Ledger as The Joker, Aaron Eckhart was cast as Harvey Dent. Eckhart was specially picked for the role of Dent by producer Christopher Nolan because of his exceptional talent for portraying “grey” characters.

He was brought up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and before relocating to England, he served a two-year LDS mission in France and Switzerland. Eckhart attended the American Community School in England. The acting bug bit him when he was a student at the school. The acting was first introduced to him in a school play.

He relocated to Sydney in 1985. His enthusiasm for acting received more encouragement while he was there, where he attended the American International School of Sydney. He participated in the school’s theatrical plays, honing his acting abilities. Nevertheless, he had no interest in studying and left to work at the Warringah Mall movie theatre.

After returning to the US in 1988, he gradually understood the necessity of a formal professional degree and enrolled as a film major at Brigham Young University-Hawaii. Later, he changed schools and attended Brigham Young University, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1994. During his time at college, he participated in a variety of theatrical plays.
