Zedd Bio

Anton Zaslavski was born to Jewish parents on September 2nd, 1989 in Saratov Oblast, Russia. When he was 4 years old, his family uprooted and settled in Germany. In Kaiserslautern, he grew up alongside his two brothers, Arkadi and Daniel. His mother, Marina Vladimirovna, is a piano teacher, and his father, Igor Zaslavski, is a schoolteacher and guitarist.

At the age of four, his mother began teaching him to play the piano. By the time he was 12 years old, he had mastered both classical music and drumming. He got his start in the music industry in 2002 as the drummer for the metal fusion band ‘Dioramic.’ The group’s contract was with a label called “Lifeforce Records.” After hearing the work of the French electronic duo Justice, he became interested in the metal-heavy electronic subgenre. Russian-German musician Anton Zaslavski, better known by his stage name “Zedd,” is a record producer, DJ, and multi-instrumentalist.

His signature sound is a dark variety of electronica. Both of his parents were accomplished musicians who inspired him to pursue music as a career. However, he honed his skills by creating remixes of songs by other artists in ‘Cubase,’ and he attributes much of his success to the French electronic duo Justice. His first single, “Spectrum,” was published on Interscope Records and quickly became a hit, peaking at number one on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs list. His first studio album, titled “Clarity,” arrived soon after. Over two million copies of “Clarity” were purchased, making it the most-played single on American radio upon its release.

His upcoming second studio album is called “True Colors.” His collaboration with Selena Gomez, “I Want You to Know,” was published in February 2015 and was later nominated for the “Teen Choice Award” in the “Choice Party Song” category. When the song was recorded, he was dating the artist. However, they ended their relationship on their own terms, and Zedd is now a single man. The “Grammy” for “Best Dance Recording” is another one of his many awards.

Under the alias “Zedd,” Zaslavski wrote music for the band “Dioramic.” He was a member of the team until 2010. In 2010, he broke through by taking first place in not one but two “Beatport” remix contests. The Anthem, his first solo effort, debuted in the top 20 on the “Beatport Electro” charts.

‘Spectrum’ was Zedd’s first single, and it was published by ‘Interscope Records’ in 2012. Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Songs chart put the song at the top. Soon after, for Justin Bieber’s third studio album, “Belief,” came the single “Beauty and a Beat.” In October of 2012, he dropped his first full-length studio album, titled “Clarity,” with the hit single “Spectrum” serving as the album’s opener. ‘Clarity’ is the album’s third single, and it was released in February 2013. Over two million copies were sold, placing the song in the top spot on the ‘Billboard Hot 100’ and making it the most-played song on American radio in September 2013. The album reached platinum status. It wasn’t long before Zedd embarked on his first global tour, which took him to every continent.

After that, he worked on the album “Feel” by Japanese singer Namie Amuro, producing the single “Heaven.” A second single, “Stay the Night,” starring Hayley Williams, also went platinum and peaked in the top 20 on the “Billboard Hot 100.” His collaboration with Ariana Grande, “Break Free,” was released in July 2014 and quickly became a top hit on both the “Billboard Hot 100” and the “Hot Dance/Electronic Songs” charts. It was up for a Teen Choice Award that year for Best Breakup Song.

In 2015, he unveiled ‘True Colors,’ his second full-length album. In the same year, he and Selena Gomez dropped a single named “I Want You to Know.” The album debuted at the top of the ‘Billboard Dance Electronic Albums chart, solidifying him as one of the year’s most successful musicians. The audience at the 2015 ‘CMT Music Awards’ was blown away by his live performance. Both the “CounterPoint Music and Arts Festival” and the “Spring Awakening Festival” featured him that year.

From August through November 2015, he toured the world again, this time visiting Asia, Europe, and North America. He also staged a concert in protest of Trump’s decision to bar admission to nationals of seven predominantly Muslim nations.
