Polly Dean Holliday is a well-known American actress who has worked in film, television, and theater. She was born on July 2, 1937, in the United States. She is most recognized for her role as the sassy waitress Florence Jean “Flo” Castleberry on the 1970s sitcom Alice, which she later reprised in the show’s short-lived spin-off, Flo. On the Broadway stage, she has starred in revivals of Arsenic and Old Lace (1986) as Martha Brewster, one of the dotty, homicidal, sweet old aunties; Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1990), for which she was nominated for a Tony Award for her portrayal of Big Mama; and Picnic (1994). In Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, she played the role of Big Mama, and she was nominated for the Tony Award.
