Morris Gleitzman Bio

Morris Gleitzman was born on 9 January 1953. Novelist Morris Gleitzman is of Anglo-Australian descent, and he writes books for young adults and children. Through the publication of his controversial book, Two Weeks with the Queen, he is credited with reviving interest in the AIDS epidemic. Gleitzman and Paul Jennings, who is also an Australian author of children’s books, worked together on a series of children’s books.

In addition, Gleitzman released adult books based on collections of his three columns that appeared in The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald. In the 1970s, Gleitzman also contributed to the well-known Norman Gunston Show. 2017 saw the publication of the author’s final installment in the “Ever” series. The Toads is one of his most well-known and successful works. Gleitzman was selected as the winner of the Australian Children’s Awards for 2018/2019 in February of 2018.

The majority of my formative years. Just the good parts and the bad parts. And on the morning of my birthday, as I hurried with excitement into the living room, I tripped over my presents, which resulted in a sprained elbow.

The rest of the pages are blank. According to my mother’s photo albums and other family relics, I was born in 1953 in the town of Sleaford, Lincolnshire, England. When I was two years old, my family relocated to the South. Photos taken far later in life reveal that I had a happy childhood in the suburbs of London with my younger brother and sister. Although there is a picture of me with a maniacal grin and a tea cozy on my head, which suggests that at some point in the past, I may have been kidnapped by an extraterrestrial spacecraft and experienced overexcitement and memory loss, this is only suggested by one picture.

I devoured each and every book that I was able to get my hands on. The classics, westerns, Enid Blyton books, soccer player biographies, Richmal Crompton’s William series, food books, and Richmal Crompton’s William series are some of my favorites.

After that, in 1969, my family and I moved to Australia. It was a significant shift. The heat, the insects, and the entirely unique canned meats all contributed to an unpleasant experience. Because I was in such disbelief, I didn’t pick up another book for almost an entire year. As soon as I got back into it, I realized that I also desired to write.

In addition, I needed to put food on the table, so I enrolled in a class called Professional Writing. By the time I had my diploma, I was capable of writing everything, from articles for newspapers to the jokes printed on the back of boxes of cereal. What I was lacking was the ability to compose my own narratives.

This occurred a great deal later. After ten years had passed. After eighty million, there were comic screenplays written for television. When I finally got around to it, I started writing a script that was very different. A dramatic account of a young man named Ben who, due to his unique perspective on the world, drives his loved ones and acquaintances virtually insane.

During the time that the movie was being produced, a publisher offered me the opportunity to adapt the screenplay into a book. I was shaking with fear. What did I understand about the process of creating a book? But I didn’t want to appear cowardly in front of Ben, so I went ahead and gave it a shot, and “The Other Facts of Life” is what came out of it.

People seemed to like it.  When compared to a movie, reading a book allows the reader to gain a better sense of how a character is thinking and feeling. I also came to the realization that although I couldn’t recall a lot about my upbringing, it seemed as though Ben’s ideas and emotions were very similar to mine at the time. I was almost confident that I had never shaved my head, shackled myself to a tennis net, or attempted to set two thousand hens free, but I understood precisely how Ben felt when he did those things. I also knew exactly how Ben felt when he tried to set the chickens free.

That was the moment when I realized how much I cherished writing novels. In the time since then, I’ve written an additional 33. In addition, I’ve realized that in order for me to create stories, it’s necessary to fill in blank pages in more than one way.

His controversial novel, “Two Weeks with the Queen,” which was published in 1990, is largely credited with reviving attention to the condition known as acquired immune deficiency syndrome. Paul Jennings, an additional Australian children’s author, is one of the authors that Gleitzman has worked with on children’s series. Additionally, Gleitzman has published three collections of his newspaper columns for The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald as books for an adult readership. Additionally, throughout the 1970s, he was a writer for the well-known Norman Gunston Show.

The 28th of January was retrieved. After, his most recent installment in the “Once” series, was published that same year. The books in the Toad trilogy have been his most commercially successful works.
