Laura Krantz is an American novelist, podcaster, and journalist. She was born in the United States. 1978 was the year of her birth. She is a founding partner of the media company Foxtopus Ink, she is the host of the podcast Wild Thing, and she worked as an editor for National Public Radio for ten years. Her body of work has been the subject of a considerable amount of publicity in the news media, including in outlets such as the Los Angeles Times, FOX, The Atlantic, and The Washington Post, amongst others. In the year 2000, she graduated with a degree in English from Whitman College. As of the year 2022, the podcast that is commonly referred to as Krantz’s Wild Thing has already aired three complete seasons.
The first episode of the first season, which aired in 2018, begins with Krantz’s startling discovery that she is connected to anthropologist Grover Krantz, who was one of the world’s greatest specialists on the cryptozoological species Bigfoot. The episode also begins with Krantz’s surprising revelation that she was born in the same year as Grover Krantz. The first season of the show likewise kicks off with this particular episode as its premiere. She launched the podcast as a reluctant attempt to comprehend the cultural fascination with Sasquatch, as well as how the monster may have formed over time and the different attempts to discover it. Specifically, she wanted to know how people had been looking for it over the years.
In later seasons of the show, the producers looked into questions such as whether or not there is a possibility of life on other planets and whether or not the use of nuclear power is feasible. Her recent work includes editing and production work on a number of projects, including Wild Thing, The Syndicate, Side Door, and Air/Space, amongst others. Previous experience for Laura includes working as an editor and producer for ten years at NPR in Washington, DC, and at KPCC in Los Angeles, California.
Her writing has been published in a variety of publications, including Popular Science, Smithsonian Magazine, Outside, High Country News, Newsweek, and the Archie McPhee Catalog, which is her personal favorite. Although she calls Denver her home for the time being, Idaho will always be her true abode. Wild Thing has received 3,700 ratings on Apple, with an average rating of 4.8 stars out of a possible five, and the majority of the reviews for the game have been positive. The original story of Wild Thing has been reworked into a variety of other follow-up ventures, one of which being The Search for Wild Thing, a podcast for kids that is produced by Pinna. Pinna is a podcasting network geared specifically on young audiences.
In addition to this, it has been adapted into an illustrated book series for middle school students that is being published by Abrams Books. Krantz has a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication from The University of New Mexico as well as a master’s degree in communication from Stephen F. Austin State University. Both of these degrees are in communication. She served as president of the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association in the past and was awarded the Charles T. Choate Memorial Adviser of the Year Award by the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association in 2011. Additionally, the National College Media Association bestowed upon her the title of Honor Roll 2-Year Newspaper Adviser in the year 2010 and Distinguished 2-Year Newspaper Adviser in the year 2019.
The book, while it does draw inspiration from the podcast, is also its own distinct entity. The fundamental progression of the story is the same, but I delved into some fun new scientific elements, as well as things that I imagined an adult audience would already be familiar with but that I could investigate in greater depth for children. I, too, was on a path of self-improvement throughout the process. It was a little bit like taking a crash course in basic biology, evolution, and other topics that I had to teach myself.
However, the objective remained the same: to make people fall in love with the concept of Bigfoot, even if they did not think it existed. During the course of my two years spent conducting research for the podcast, Laura Krantz listened to an overwhelming number of stories. I decided to only include experiences that had a more scientific tone to them; these were also the ones that I thought to be more compelling overall, so that’s why I chose them.
This referred to reports of sightings made by people who had previously worked as wildlife biologists, for fish and game agencies, or who were keen outdoors people — people who had a deep comprehension of the natural world and the environment. When someone like that tells you that they’ve seen something strange, something that’s nothing like they’ve ever seen or heard before, well, it kind of makes me pay attention to what they’re saying because it’s unlike anything they’ve ever seen or heard before.
And without a doubt, the tale that I had no choice but to include was told to me by a gentleman named John Mionczynski. He is the epitome of a mountain man, someone who possesses a profound understanding of the natural world and all of the creatures that live in it. When he informed me about his possible encounter with a Bigfoot, I felt the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I have always been fascinated by the possibility of Bigfoot encounters.
