Keyshia Myeshia Cole is a well-known American singer, songwriter, and television personality. Cole was born Keyshia Johnson on October 15, 1981, in the United States. Cole got her start in the music industry as a background vocalist for MC Hammer. It was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), and it earned her various awards, including a nomination for an NAACP Image Award and two nominations for a Soul Train Music Award at ceremonies that took place in 2006, respectively. Cole performed as a supporting act on Kanye West’s Touch the Sky Tour, which ran from October 2005 all the way through December of that same year, in order to further promote the album.
Cole was featured on “(When You Gonna) Give It Up to Me” by Sean Paul, which was included on the soundtrack of the 2006 romance dance film Step Up (2006). The song was released in June of that year. It was a top 20 hit in a number of other countries, including Canada, Switzerland, and Finland, and it peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100. It was reported on July 9, 2006, that Cole had signed a contract with BET for a reality series that would be titled Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is. The first episode of the series, which chronicles her personal life as well as the tensions between her family and her professional career, debuted three days after the announcement of the series.
