Kevin Michael Richardson Bio

Kevin Michael Richardson is a well-known actor who was born in the United States on October 25, 1964. In animation and video games, he has often provided the voice of the antagonist, thanks to the particularly deep tone of his speaking voice. Richardson’s film roles include Captain Gantu in the Lilo & Stitch franchise, Kamek in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and Deus Ex Machina in The Matrix Revolutions. He also provided the voice of Goro in Mortal Kombat and will reprise the role in Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge. In addition, he has provided the voices for a number of characters on The Simpsons and on Seth MacFarlane’s shows Family Guy, The Cleveland Show, and American Dad! He has also provided the voices for a number of characters on The Cleveland Show.

Richardson is also known for his roles as Trigon, Mammoth & See-More in both Teen Titans and Teen Titans Go!, Antauri in Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go!, the Shredder in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Stump Smash and Tree Rex in the Skylanders video game series, Rosie in F Is for Family, Barney Rubble in The Flintstones: On the Rocks, the Mauler Twins and Monster Girl in Invincible, and Chairman Drek in the video game Ratchet & Clank. As a result of his work as the voice of the Joker in The Batman, he was nominated for two Daytime Emmy Awards. Richardson started out his career in live-action acting in New York City by appearing in a number of advertisements in the city.

It was an AT&T ad that gave him his first taste of the professional acting world. His voice was regularly used in various ads that were shown on television. After that, he relocated to the Los Angeles area. Because of his strong and commanding voice, he is almost often cast in roles that need him to play villains. In 1995, he was given his first voice acting job in the animated television adaptation of The Mask, playing the part of Mayor Tilton. Coyote on Loonatics Unleashed, and the voice of Exile in the 1990s animated series Road Rovers.

On the animated series The Spectacular Spider-Man, Richardson took over for Keith David as the voice of Tombstone. Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter and Icewind Dale II both include his voice acting work as a character voice actor. Although he is credited as playing the role of Victor Stone in the video game Soul Calibur II for the PlayStation 2, he provided the voice of Heihachi. In addition, he provided his voice for the characters Stump Smash and Tree Rex in the video games Skylanders: Swap Force, Skylanders: Trap Team, and Skylanders: SuperChargers. In the animated film The Flintstones: On the Rocks, which was released in 2001, Richardson provided the voice of Barney Rubble.

In 2004, he made history by voicing the character of the Joker in the animated series The Batman, a role for which he was twice nominated for the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program. In addition, he was the first Black actor to ever portray the Joker in any medium. He took over the role of Trigon on the Teen Titans animated series from Keith Szarabajka in 2005, providing the voice for the villain.

In the comedy film Clerks II, which was released in 2006, he played the role of a police officer who comes across the words “Porch Monkey 4 Life” written on the back of Randal Graves’ work jacket. He also provided his voice for the elder dragon Terrador, who is featured in The Legend of Spyro game series. In the 2008 film Wolverine and the X-Men, he provided the voice acting for the character of Bishop. In later seasons of The Super Hero Squad Show, he provided the voice for Nick Fury. In the 2004 Nickelodeon animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender, he also provided his voice for the character of Tyro.

Richardson frequently portrays characters that are based on the comedic work of Bill Cosby. Some examples of this include Family Guy, in which Stewie competes on the comedian’s Kids Say the Darndest Things; The Boondocks, in which he plays Cosby himself; and Codename: Kids Next Door, in which he plays Numbuh 5’s father Mr. Lincoln, who is a tribute to Cosby.

His most frequent role on Family Guy is Jerome, Lois’s ex-boyfriend. He also is the voice of Cleveland Brown Jr. and voiced Lester Krinklesac and numerous others on The Cleveland Show. He now portrays Principal Brian Lewis on American Dad! He is the current voice for Dr. Hibbert replacing Harry Shearer on The Simpsons. His voice duties in 2011 included Panthro in the Thundercats series, Martian Manhunter on Young Justice, and Bulkhead, and one of the Autobots in Transformers: Prime. He portrayed Kilowog in Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters, the computer game sequel to the live-action film Green Lantern and subsequently repeated the character in Green Lantern: The Animated Series. Back in 2012 and again in 2013, he was considered for the role of Voice Actor of the Year by Behind the Voice Actors.

In September 2013, he performed the voice of Mr. Gus on the Cartoon Network sitcom Uncle Grandpa. In the episode “The Princess Guide” from The Simpsons that aired in 2015, he provided the voice of a monarch from Nigeria. Later on, he lent his voice to the character of Judge Michaels in Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Tough Love, which was the director’s first animated picture. In 2021, he performed the voice of Jimbo in The Boss Baby: Back in Business, the sequel to the 2017 film The Boss Baby.
