Kelly Macdonald Bio

Kelly Macdonald was born on February 23, 1976, in the city of Glasgow, in Scotland. When Macdonald was five years old, she and her family moved to Aberdeen, and she wound up spending the majority of her formative years in that city. Between the years 1987 to 1993, she was a student at the made-up ‘Eastwood High School’ located in Newton Mearns, Scotland.

When Macdonald first entered the job, she worked as a bartender in Glasgow. She made the decision to try out for the role after seeing a leaflet advertising a casting call for the movie “Trainspotting.” Therefore, the creators of the British black comedy picture cast her as a young seductress under the stage name Diane Coulston. In the television movie “Skellig” from 2009, she also played the role of Louise.

Between the years 2010 and 2014, she appeared as Margaret Thompson in a total of 45 episodes of the American crime drama series “Boardwalk Empire,” which aired on the HBO network. During this time, she starred in notable roles in films such as “The Decoy Bride,” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” and “Anna Karenina.” In the computer-animated fantasy movie “Brave,” which was released in 2012, she lent her voice acting talents to the role of Princess Merida.
