Kaskade Bio

Kaskade was born on 25 February 1971After a year on the road in support of his 2003 landmark debut album, It’s You, It’s Me, Kaskade is happy to be back with his Om Records family and to contribute “Soundtrack to the Soul” to the acclaimed San Francisco Sessions Series. The past year has seen a great deal of discussion surrounding this young man and his music.

The media, disc jockeys, radio stations, and music fans all over the world are crazy about him. Kaskade, whose real name is Ryan Raddon, has been called “The Best Up & Coming Artist of 2003” by URB MAGAZINE and has made “A captivating debut” by BILLBOARD, but he remains unassuming, unassuming, and low-key in flip-flops, with so much more love to give. This is Kaskade’s story, and his new album takes listeners on a journey into his soul as a DJ and producer.

Raddon, a youngster in the Chicago suburbs in the 1980s, was mesmerized by the new wave and spent many Friday nights at Club Medusas, where Frankie Knuckles performed. It was there that he first heard bands like Tears for Fears, The Cult, Ministry, and The Smiths. Ryan’s knowledge grew when he went to parties and discovered these energizing, forward-thinking aural genres as house music took form in the basements and warehouses of Chicago. His go-to local radio broadcasts were The Hot Mix Five and Derrick Carter and Mark Farina’s shows on WNUR at Northwestern University. He spent much of the decade collecting records at Gramaphone and playing them for friends.

Around 1992, he uprooted his life and studies to Salt Lake City, where he enrolled at the University of Utah and used his earnings as a DJ to pay for school. He opened called Mechanized Records and ran a weekly house night there for five years. Ryan was an early proponent of housing in Salt Lake, helping to light a fuse that would soon spread to other, more unlikely cities. Here he established a recording facility, from which came many albums on the Mechanized label and the sale of a breakthrough track to his preferred record company, Om Records. The art of DJing “inspired me to make music,” he claims. “It was a natural progression on my part.”

After visiting the Bay Area with his wife Naomi, Ryan was impressed by the vibrant culture there and the two decided to make the move there in May of 2000. He was hired within a few months to work as Chris Smith’s assistant in A&R at Om. “The label’s reach is far and wide,” he says. Being in the company of imaginative people who take pride in their work gave me a boost. Ryan kept up his DJing and music production under the alias Kaskade, and he started working on his studio chops. After selling a tune to the defunct Chicago label Afterhours, he secretly started sneaking his music into Om’s demo piles. As the first track on Mark Grant’s highly regarded “Sound Design Volume 2” in 2001, “What I Say” was the first single picked up by Om under his Kaskade pseudonym.

Despite Kaskade’s appearances on many of Om’s highly sought-after compilations, he was unprepared for the immense acclaim that followed the release of his debut album, “It’s You, It’s Me.” Jay Hannan and Ben Watt, formerly of Lazy Dog, shared their praise after the unreleased music completely blew away their London Sunday night crowd. Marques Wyatt further showed his thanks by reserving the remixing of a future hit for himself. Recently, Kaskade has become a staple at the helm of DJ booths all over the world. Jay Hannan has picked Kaskade to launch his new label, Society Heights, with the highlight track from “Soundtrack to the Soul,” “In this Life.” Additionally, Roger Sanchez befriended Kaskade, licensing two tracks for his last mix, “Release Yourself 2003.”

Kaskade’s music is full of life, love, and happiness, and this can be heard in the upbeat tones, organic instrumentals, catchy vocals, and variety of his style. He describes himself as an upbeat and positive individual.

He began his career as a DJ, A&R director, and record store owner after being born in Chicago as Ryan Gary Raddon. He started getting into the evolving electronic music industry in the late ’90s, and by the end of that decade, he had settled on the house as his preferred style. Both in New York and Salt Lake City, he worked as a DJ and eventually started his own record label, Mechanized Records. He also made a sale to OM Records’ A&R head John Elkins, who subsequently employed Raddon as an assistant. Kaskade was a club DJ by night and a mentor to numerous up-and-coming artists during the day, including Ming + FS and soul-house group Soulstice.

It’s You, It’s Me, released in 2003, marked the beginning of his own full-length records under the Kaskade pseudonym. In the Moment, released the following year, took a soulful, more organic turn, while Raddon continued to keep his reputation in record stores by hosting editions of the San Francisco Sessions DJ series. His dedication to music production was unexpected, as seen by the success of his 2006 album Love Mysterious on Billboard’s electronic albums chart. He left OM and joined Ultra in the same year.

Strobelight Seduction, released in 2008 and produced by Deadmau5, is his most commercially successful album to date because to the success of the lead single “Move for Me.” The 2010 release Dynasty bragged about his rising star status with a slew of guest vocalists and a collaboration with Tisto. It was his first album to enter the Billboard 200, and it was a success. In that same year, Raddon compiled Electric Daisy Carnival, a mix including performers at the first-ever festival of its kind dedicated to electronic dance music.
