Joyce Meyer Bio

Joyce Meyer was born on June 4, 1943, in St. Louis. At first, Joyce’s mother raised her while her father was away serving in the military during World War II. Joyce’s father returned from the war and immediately began abusing her sexually as well as emotionally, verbally, and intellectually. He was very authoritarian in nature. Joyce’s exploitation left a lasting mark on her, and she came to have a low opinion of herself as a result. Joyce suffered from multiple personality disorder, even though to outsiders she appeared normal. Although she attended classes, she was unable to focus on her work, and she was barred from participating in extracurricular activities.

Joyce was plagued with self-pity at an early age. She became extremely difficult to deal with due to her dominating, manipulative, insecure, and brusque demeanor. She felt guilty and began to think in a suspicious, pessimistic way as a result. The worst part, though, was that she was never truly secure. Joyce, a survivor of abuse, persevered through school and earned her diploma from St. Louis’s O’Falllon Technical High School.

Viewers of the Joyce Meyer Ministries program “Enjoying Daily Life” may have wondered how a former sexual and emotional abuse victim could speak so confidently about God’s grace, His intentions, and His love. That Joyce Meyer is blessed is beyond dispute. Meyer, a Christian preacher and author with a turbulent past, overcame adversity to found one of the largest Christian organizations in the world. Millions of people have been helped by her writings, and her program is dedicated to reclaiming Jesus’ words by assisting individuals in incorporating them into their own lives.

She says that God’s words turned around her hopeless situation. As a Bible teacher, she imparts God’s Word to others via the lens of her personal experiences and testimony. Meyer has recently drawn criticism from the media for her lavish spending habits. She shrugs off the criticism and keeps working to help others find redemption. Joyce got married to a part-time auto salesman just after she graduated from college, but their relationship began to deteriorate only five years later. In 1967, she tied the knot with Dave Meyer.

In 1976, she says God spoke to her directly while she was driving to work. As a result of what happened, she developed a strong affinity for the Bible and the knowledge and skill to fully interpret God’s Word. Following hearing God’s call, she joined the Lutheran Church at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in St. Louis. She began her ministry career by teaching an early morning session at a neighborhood cafeteria. She started going regularly to a dynamic church in Fenton called Life Christian Center. She was quickly promoted to the position of assistant pastor at the church. Her Bible teachings were so well received that the church quickly rose to prominence.

She became well-known and respected due to her role as a Bible teacher. She started doing a daily 15-minute radio show on a St. Louis radio station since the demand was so high. She left her position as an associate pastor in 1985 to start her own church. It first premiered on Chicago’s WGN Superstation and Los Angeles’s BET as “Life in the Word” (BET). From Chicago to Kansas City, she was approached by six different radio stations offering to broadcast her program. Her husband, Dave Meyer, convinced her to start a television network in 1993. The result was the immensely popular “Enjoying Daily Life” television ministry.

Loving Daily Life has been running for a while now, and it airs on 900 different TV and radio stations in 40 different languages, reaching an audience of almost 4.5 billion people. Over a thousand people work for the company, which has its headquarters in Missouri and 12 regional offices spread across the country. Via Joyce Meyer Ministries, she imparts wisdom on a variety of issues relating to the inner workings of one’s brain, heart, tongue, and soul.

Her show’s success can be attributed to the fact that she openly discusses the lessons she’s learned from her own life and encourages her audience to do the same. Her innovative, down-to-earth approach to the Bible is truly groundbreaking. She has written about a hundred books throughout the years, which have been read by around 12 million people since they have been translated into more than a hundred languages. Her works have been so well received by readers and critics that she has joined the ranks of the New York Times bestsellers.

Joyce also hosts a television ministry, writes books, and does a number of conferences each year, both at home and abroad, to encourage people to start appreciating the little things in life. Her women’s conference draws over 200,000 attendees annually from all over the world.
Joyce states that she hopes to alleviate suffering and draw people closer to the Gospel through her teachings. To that end, she established Hand of Hope, the charitable organization that acts as Joyce Meyer Ministries’ international outreach arm. Food, healthcare, and emergency supplies are just some of the many services it offers.

She and her husband established the St. Louis Dream Center in 2000. The Center’s mission is to show the love of Christ to the poor, the lost, and the hurt in the inner city by providing them with direct service. Joyce has garnered the ire of the public and her detractors for being self-indulgent and living a lavish lifestyle, despite the fact that she has contributed significantly to society. She has, however, deflected all of the attacks by saying that she is blessed and, thus, has nothing to prove. In 2004, the Rev. Larry Rice of New Life Evangelical Center in St. Louis, who ran the Christian television station KNLC, canceled her show because of her lavish spending habits. Rice argued that the cancellation was necessary because her sermons go “beyond Scripture.”
