Joanna Trollope Bio

Joanna Trollope was born on December 9th, 1943. Her parents were Arthur George Cecil Trollope and Rosemary Hodson.  She is a member of the fifth generation of the Trollope family and is a niece of the Victorian novelist Anthony Trollope. Her cousin James Trollope is also a writer and broadcaster. She received her primary education at Reigate County School for Girls and then continued her studies at St. Hugh’s College in Oxford.

She wed the financier David Roger William Potter on the 14th of May in 1966, and the couple went on to have two daughters together, Antonia and Louise. They got a divorce in 1983. She remarried in 1985, this time to the television dramatist Ian Curteis, and subsequently became the stepmother of two stepsons before the couple split in 2001. She is now a grandmother and lives alone in London. She has always lived there.

She served at the Foreign Office between the years 1965 and 1967. She began her career in education in 1967 and held a variety of teaching positions until 1979. In 1980, she transitioned into the role of a full-time writer. In 1980, the Romantic Novelists’ Association selected her novel Parson Harding’s Daughter as the recipient of the Romantic Novel of the Year Award.

Joanna is the eldest of three children, and she is now a grandmother. She is the mother of two daughters as well as the stepmother of two stepsons. In the United States, she recalled seeing a bumper sticker once.

Joanna concedes that her school days in Surrey were not a particularly joyful period for her, and in point of fact, she claims that she actually rather loathed going to school. She claims that it wasn’t until I got to college that I finally began to take pleasure in learning. No school can be held responsible; rather, it was the feeling I had throughout my childhood and adolescence of being an outsider and not belonging that caused me the most misery at a time in their lives when 99.9% of children want to conform. But, I was educated extremely well, and I believe that even back then, I was able to pick up on this.

After attending Oxford on the merit of a minuscule scholarship, Joanna worked for a while in the Foreign Office before deciding to pursue a career in education. She began writing “to fill the long spaces after the children had gone to bed” and for many years merged her career as a teacher with her writing career. She began writing “to fill the long spaces after the children had gone to bed.”

My opinion is that we should never, ever undervalue the power of a narrative since it is the means through which we negotiate with one another, establish and maintain relationships, and educate ourselves. And there is nothing more captivating than a good story; people of any age are unable to resist the want to find out “What Happens Next.”

Joanna Trollope has been writing for more than thirty years. She began her writing career by penning a number of historical novels that are now published under the pen name Caroline Harvey. After that, she wrote Britannia’s Daughters, which is a study of women who lived during the time of the British Empire. More recently, she has written a number of contemporary works of fiction that have been incredibly successful.

Her debut work of contemporary fiction was titled “The Choir,” and her subsequent novels included “A Village Affair” and “A Passionate Man.” The Rector’s Wife, which she wrote, catapulted her to fame and became her first book to reach number one on the bestseller list. Since then, she has penned a large number of novels set in modern times. She was recognized for her contributions to the literary world and was awarded the Order of the British Empire in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 1996.

Joanna Trollope has devoted her entire life to helping other people in significant ways. She claims, “I care more and more about people, particularly the weak and the disadvantaged ones.” She gives a significant portion of her time to supporting the work of six different charitable organizations. At the moment, she serves as the Patron of both the March Foundation and the for Dementia organization. In addition, Joanna is an advocate for the Royal National Institute for the Blind, particularly it’s Right to Read Campaign; the Meningitis Trust; Macmillan Nurses; Breast Cancer Care; and the Gloucestershire Community Foundation.

Joanna’s response when she was asked to remark on who or what has been the greatest influence on her work was, “Simply – just life, I believe. When I look back, I can see a whole series of influences – personal, educational, social, professional, and economic – that have shaped me rather than being able to point to one single colossus and say, “It was him, or she.” At certain stages, a particular person, book, idea, or movie can strike a huge chord; I’m sure this is true of everyone.
