James Patrick Page was born on January 9, 1944, in Heston, Middlesex, England. His dad worked in human resources at a factory, and his mom was a medical secretary. He had an early appreciation for music and even dabbled with guitar tuition. Then he started jamming with neighborhood bands and quickly realized he wanted to make music his career. But illness forced him to reevaluate his life, and he left music to attend Sutton Art College in Surrey.
Even as a young student, he was already making appearances at the ‘Marquee Club. He joined other groups and quickly became well-known as a sought-after session guitarist. So he could devote more time to his music career, he dropped out of college. Jimmy Page, an English guitarist, and the band’s leader became famous for his work with the legendary rock group Led Zeppelin. He started out as a studio session musician in London, but he is also a skilled lyricist and plays multiple instruments. He was inspired to pick up the guitar at the tender age of 12 after seeing Elvis Presley in concert.
At first, he had teachers, but eventually, he taught himself. When he was 15, he joined the band The Crusaders and began performing at local halls. His musical career was put on hiatus due to illness, and he has since devoted himself to learning. Yet he wasn’t able to stay away from music for long, and he soon found himself onstage as a student. After years of honing his musical chops, he joined forces with singer Robert Plant, bassist and keyboardist John Paul Jones, and drummer John Bonham to form the rock band Led Zeppelin. The band enjoyed meteoric popularity and is now widely regarded as the forerunner of heavy metal and hard rock.
Throughout the ’60s, he was in high demand as a session guitarist, performing with a wide range of famous acts like ‘The Rolling Stones. Around the middle of the ’60s, he became a member of the ‘Yardbirds,’ a blues rock band. The band had some initial success, but they broke up in 1968 after it had all but died.
In 1968, Jimmy Page changed the band’s lineup to include himself, singer Robert Plant, drummer John Bonham, and multi-instrumentalist John Paul Jones. The name of the new group was “Led Zeppelin.” In 1969, the band released their self-titled debut album. It was a commercial hit thanks to its blend of blues and rock music. Good Times, Bad Times, Dazed and Confused, and Communication Breakdown were some of the songs included.
After the publication of their first album, the group gained a lot of attention. With the success of their debut album, “Led Zeppelin,” the members of the band were pushed to release three more albums within a short period of time during the next couple of years: “Led Zeppelin II”, “Led Zeppelin III”, and “Led Zeppelin IV”.
After their initial success, ‘Led Zeppelin’ went on to become a major force in the US music industry. They put out nine studio albums, all of which charted in the top 10 on the American Billboard album list, including six at the top. John Bonham, the band’s drummer, died suddenly in 1980. Page was devastated by the death of his best buddy and the subsequent breakup of the band. He put off picking up the guitar for a very long time.
He eventually got back into music and began performing again. In the 1980s, he worked with groups like The Firm and The Honeydrippers. On a few occasions, he also performed live with his former “Led Zeppelin” colleagues.
He played a significant role in the 1990s remastering of the ‘Led Zeppelin discography. During the 2000s, he and Robert Plant reunited for a performance on MTV’s “Unplugged” series, which was recorded and released as “No Quarter: Jimmy Page and Robert Plant Unledded.” Since then, Page’s songs and performances have never failed to thrill his devoted followers. At the 2008 “Summer Olympics,” he shared the stage with Leona Lewis.
He has also been featured on the two-hour-long BBC Radio 2 broadcast “Johnny Walker Meets” and has performed in London’s “Royal Albert Hall.” The skilled guitarist has ambitions to start a new group and create new music for his devoted following. The band’s album “Led Zeppelin II” was their first to debut at number one on the charts in both the United Kingdom and the United States. The RIAA awarded it 12 Platinum since it sold over 12 million copies, and music reviewers agree that it is one of the finest and most influential rock albums of all time. This platinum album was produced by Jimmy Page.
In 2012, he, Plant, and Jones from their band won the “Kennedy Centre Honors.” In 2014, he received a Doctor of Music from Berklee College of Music. Throughout the 1970s, Jimmy Page dated French beauty, Charlotte Martin. In the early 1980s, they decided to part ways. She is their daughter.
He had a son with his waitress/model wife Patricia Ecker, whom he wed in 1986. In 1995, they decided to divorce. Jimena Gómez-Paratcha was the third woman he wed. After he and Jimena broke up, he adopted Jimena’s daughter. In 2008, Jimena and Jimmy ended their marriage. Scarlett Sabet, an actor, and poet became Jimmy Page’s girlfriend in 2014. He is 45 years older than Scarlett. He’s in a lot of benefit shows.
