Griffin Newman was born on February 19, 1989, and he is an American actor and comedian who hails from the United States. In the television series The Tick, which is produced by Amazon Studios, he is known for playing the role of Arthur Everest. He is also known for cohosting the film podcast Blank Check with Griffin & David alongside film critic David Sims, and for acting as cohost and sidekick Watto on The George Lucas Talk Show.
Newman was born to film producer Peter Newman and casting director Antonia Dauphin, who is also Newman’s mother. Their son’s name is Newman. His acting ability was passed down to him via his grandpa on his mother’s side, Claude Dauphin, who was also an actor. James Newman, who is much younger than him, also has a successful career in the acting industry. Greenwich Village was where Newman spent the majority of his boyhood, and he attended Saint Ann’s School, which is also located in Greenwich Village. He had a passion for acting ever since he was a very young child, and he would frequently put on routines starring Fozzie Bear for his friends and family.
At the age of 10, he participated in Jo Ann Grossman’s “Kidsncomedy” program, which Grossman directed. The program gave children the opportunity to do stand-up comedy. The vast majority of his work, which was mostly of a political bent, was developed in conjunction with his father. In spite of the fact that his parents had some reservations about him having a profession in acting, he started gaining some attention from agents around this time. He did this despite the fact that they were skeptical. He made his debut in front of the camera in the mock documentary The Buried Secret of M. Night Shyamalan, in which he played the part of “Teenage Fan.” This was his first on-screen appearance. The performance that he gave was only used in a little segment of the movie.
During the years that Newman was a teenager, he spent a lot of time at the Buck’s Rock Performing and Creative Arts Camp. Newman has his first substantial appearance in cinema in the film The Treatment, which was released in 2006. Newman plays the part of high school student Scott in this film. After that, he went on to star in a variety of various student films and short films. Eventually, he became a well-known actor.
Newman played the role of Horny Rob Becker, one of the buddies of the titular Gonzo, who was played by Ezra Miller, in the teen movie “Beware the Gonzo,” which was released in 2010. When the film was first made available to the public, it was welcomed with a range of responses; nonetheless, Newman’s performance was hailed as particularly noteworthy. According to Odie Henderson, who reviews movies for RogerEbert.com, “Becker is the most interesting character in the movie.”
After watching him play the role of Russ in the television miniseries Political Animals for the USA Network, Just for Laughs selected him as one of the 2012 New Faces of Comedy: Characters. This honor came as a result of the show’s recognition of his comedic talents. Because of this job, he was able to make it onto the list. In 2013, Newman was cast as Seymour on the NBC sitcom Mulaney, which was an original creation of Mulaney’s father, John Mulaney. The network ultimately decided not to pick up the show after recording the pilot episode; nevertheless, later that year, Fox agreed to screen it; however, the part of Seymour was removed from the original script. Newman has described the event as his very personal retelling of the story of the Dark Phoenix.
During that time, he served as a co-host for the show. Alongside Andrew Tavin, he hosted the live comedy show The Awooga Comedy Hour, which began airing in January of 2013. The first episode of the show to air on a weekly basis was shown in May 2014. In the 2014 movie Draft Day, Newman played the character of Rick the Intern and appeared alongside Kevin Costner. Draft Day was released that year. Later on in the same year, Newman made the announcement that he had become a member of UCB’s Maude Team. 2014 was the year that saw the release of Draft Day.
Following that, he went on to perform minor roles in a variety of additional feature films, some of which include Fort Tilden, Free The Nipple, and Naomi and Ely’s No Kiss List, among others. Snarky Sidekick and The Untitled online Series That Morgan Evans Is Doing for MTV are two examples of online series in which Newman has appeared as a guest star alongside other actors. Additionally, he starred in all three seasons of the web series Cop Show, which was produced by Colin Quinn. He played the role of the Director in all three seasons.
The Phantom Podcast is a show that was created by Newman and reviewer David Sims in March 2015. It is a show that analyses the film The Phantom Menace as if it were the sole film in the Star Wars saga. After finishing its discussion of the additional Star Wars films, the program then began constructing its new premise and rebranded itself as Blank Check with Griffin & David. It also changed its name to reflect the new direction it was taking. During the course of the podcast, Sims, Newman, and occasionally a guest explore the filmographies of directors who have had huge success early on in their careers, which has enabled them to be granted the flexibility to make large-scale passion projects. Sims, Newman, and occasionally a guest analyze the filmographies of directors who have had massive success early on in their careers.
