Bio

Enrique Miguel Iglesias Preysler born May 8, 1975 is a Spanish singer-songwriter. After the success of “Bailamos,” several mainstream record labels were eager to sign Iglesias. He began his recording career in the mid-nineties on Mexican indie label Fonovisa. After weeks of negotiating with Interscope, Iglesias signed a multi-album deal and recorded and released his first full-length English album, Enrique. It took two months to complete the pop album with Latin influences. It included “Rhythm Divine,” a duet with Whitney Houston titled “Could I Have This Kiss Forever,” and a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Sad Eyes.” Iglesias appeared in the Super Bowl XXXIV halftime show in 2000, alongside Christina Aguilera, Phil Collins, and Toni Braxton. On his radio show, shock jock Howard Stern repeatedly played a tape of a supposedly off-key Iglesias and accused him of not being able to sing live.

Iglesias performed the song live on Stern’s show on June 8, 2000, accompanied only by a guitar. Stern said after the performance, “I respect you for coming in here; you really can sing.”  Iglesias stated that the recording could have been of him, but that it was most likely made during a television taping in which he was required to lip sync and not sing properly. He’d say that the controversy was the best promotion he could have gotten. “Be with You,” the album’s lead single, became Iglesias’ second number-one single on Billboard’s Hot 100. 2001-2002: Quizas and Escape Iglesias released his second English-language album, Escape, in 2001. Whereas the majority of the previous year’s Latin crossover acts struggled to match the record sales of their first English-language albums, Iglesias went on to sell even more, with

The album was reissued internationally in a second edition that included a new version of one of Iglesias’ favourite songs, “Maybe,” as well as a duet with Lionel Richie called “To Love a Woman.” Iglesias capitalised on the success of the album with his “One-Night Stand World Tour,” which included fifty sold-out shows in sixteen countries. The tour concluded with a big show at Lia Manoliu Stadium in Bucharest, Romania, after stops at Radio City Music Hall and three consecutive nights at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

The concert was the catalyst for the launch of MTV Romania, with the video for “Love to See You Cry” being the first to air on the channel. In 2002, Iglesias decided to release Quizás, his fourth Spanish-language album (Perhaps). The album’s title track, a song about the strained relationship Iglesias has with his famous father, is a song about the strained relationship Iglesias has with his famous father. Quizás sold a million copies in one week, making it the fastest-selling Spanish album in five years. All three singles from the album charted at the top of the Latin chart, giving Iglesias a total of sixteen number ones. He currently has the most number-one singles on Billboard’s Latin Chart. The tour concluded with a single performance at San Juan’s Roberto Clemente Coliseum. 2003-2004: Seven years By 2003, Iglesias had released his seventh album, titled 7, the second of which he co-wrote. It includes the song “Roamer,” which he wrote with his friend and longtime guitarist Tony Bruno, among its more 1980s-inspired material. The CD also included the song “Be Yourself,” a song about independence; the chorus mentions how Iglesias’ parents did not believe he would ever succeed in his singing career. The first single was “Addicted,” which was quickly followed by a remix of “Not in Love,” which featured Kelis. With this album, Iglesias embarked on his most extensive world tour to date.

The highly publicised tour began with twelve shows in the United States, culminating with Iglesias performing at the Houston Rodeo, and then went on to several countries, the majority of which he’d never visited before, playing to sold-out arenas and stadiums in Australia, India, Egypt, and Singapore before concluding in South Africa.
