Ellie Goulding was born Elena Jane Goulding on December 30, 1986, in the small English village of Lyonshall, which is located close to the town of Kington in the county of Herefordshire.
In May 2014, she revealed that she was dating musician Dougie Poynter, and the two soon began making public appearances together. They called it quits in March of 2016 due to their respective hectic careers.
In August 2018, she revealed that she was engaged to her longtime lover, Caspar Jopling. Michael Jopling, a former conservative Politician, is Caspar’s grandfather. The wedding took place at York Minister on August 31, 2019. This is the first child of the happy couple.
Before her early performances, she would have terrible panic attacks. She began running up to six miles a day, every day, in an effort to calm her racing mind. She took part in a “Students Run LA” charity event back in 2011.
In London, she participated in Gucci’s global concert event for the ‘Chime for Change campaign to promote gender equality. For the 2013 “Children in Need” campaign, she recorded the official single, “How Long Will I Love You.”
When she was just five years old, her father abandoned the family. Her mom finally wed a truck driver, but they divorced. Ellie threatened to hit her stepfather in the face in one of her interviews. Her mother always supported her musical dreams, even from a young age. At age 9, she took up the clarinet, and by 14, she had begun penning her own music. She didn’t start taking songwriting seriously until she was in college, though.
She played the Scarecrow in a school performance of “The Wizard of Oz” when she attended “Lady Hawkins’ High School” in Kington. Afterward, she attended the fictitious University of Kent, where she studied drama, politics, and English. At the tender age of 23, Ellie Goulding has already established herself as one of the most popular artists in the United Kingdom. Ellie, then eight years old, boasted to her mom that she was destined for greatness.
As a young adult, she picked up the guitar and started creating songs. She began her musical career with the success of her debut EP, An Introduction to Ellie Goulding, which she released after winning a singing competition in college. Her original soprano voice quickly gained widespread attention. Her studio albums like “Lights,” “Halcyon,” and “Delirium” have been met with widespread critical acclaim. She’s a style and music icon, having been featured in numerous publications. Shape and Women’s Health have both featured her on their covers due to her dedication to physical fitness. Ellie is active in the community and likes to help those in need, especially kids from low-income families and people living on the streets.
While Ellie Goulding was a student at the fictional “University of Kent,” she discovered electronic music. She reached out to record producer Frankmusik via “MySpace,” and the two collaborated on creating her unique brand of “folktronica.” At the time, she was managed by scout turned A&R Jamie Lillywhite, who had originally discovered her at a college talent show. She met his boss, Sarah Stennett, and was offered a place to reside in West London and was encouraged to drop out of school.
When she was ready to release her first single, “Under the Sheets,” on November 15, 2009, Jamie set her up with record producer Starsmith. Lights, her subsequent album, was produced by him. Even though she had a contract with Polydor, they released Under the Covers on their own label, Neon Gold.
After the December 20, 2009, release of her self-titled first EP, Ellie Goulding received a nomination for the “Critics’ Choice Award” at the 2010 “Brit Awards.” She was also chosen as the “BBC Sound of 2010,” another honor she received. She collaborated on four tracks with Diana Vickers and one with Gabriella Cilmi during this time.
Released on February 26, 2010, her first full-length album titled “Lights” went straight to the top of the “UK Albums Chart” at its initial release. In August of the same year, she released her second EP, titled “Run into the Light,” which featured remixes of songs from “Lights.” In November 2010, she published a revised version of her album titled “Lights” with six more songs. A cover of “Your Song” by Elton John appeared on the album and peaked at #2 on the “UK Singles Chart.”
At the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29, 2011, she sang. She gave a performance at the White House’s “National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony” on December 1, 2011. She sang “Bittersweet” for “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2” soundtrack in late 2012. That year, in 2012, she sang “Mirror” for “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.” She also contributed to the soundtrack of the movie “Divergent” with the song “Beating Heart.”
On November 6, 2015, she released her third studio album, titled “Delirium,” to generally excellent reviews from the music press. The album featured the single “Love Me as You Do,” which was used on the soundtrack for the 2015 film Fifty Shades of Grey. For this performance, she was nominated for her first Grammy.
In October 2015, she performed “On My Mind” on the Australian edition of “X Factor.” She recorded “Still Falling for You” in August 2016 specifically for use in “Bridget Jones’s Baby.” They worked together on the EP “Mad Love the Prequel” by Jamaican rapper Sean Paul after she signed with “Tap Management” in 2018. Goulding’s rumored fourth studio album was in the works as of January 1, 2019. Both “Sixteen” and “Hate Me” were released in 2015, the same year she dated American rapper Juice Wrld.
