Dirk Blocker Bio

Dennis Dirk Blocker is a well-known American actor who was born on July 31st, 1957. It was on Baa Baa Black Sheep (1976–1978), in which he played pilot Jerry Bragg, that he was cast in his first regular role on television. He portrayed Detective Michael Hitchcock on the Fox and NBC comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine from 2013 to 2021. His run lasted until 2021. He is the son of actor Dan Blocker and Dolphia Lee Blocker, whose maiden name was Parker. He was born in Los Angeles, California, in the United States. David Blocker, the famous producer, is his brother.

In a commercial for an automobile that was released in 1964, Blocker made his debut appearance with his father. He made his first appearance on American television in 1974, when he played a role in an episode of Marcus Welby, M.D. He was only 16 years old at the time. He has appeared in guest appearances on ER,  Little House on the Prairie, The X-Files, Beverly Hills, 90210, Walker, Texas Ranger, Night Court, Murder, She Wrote, M*A*S*H, Doogie Howser, M.D., Matlock, Quantum Leap, and CHiPs.

He has also voiced a character on the animated series CHiPs. At the age of 19, he was given the part of 1st Lt. Jerry Bragg in the military drama Baa Baa Black Sheep (1976–1978), which ran from 1976 to 1978. Before being cast in Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013–2021), he did not appear in any other regular capacity in a television series. In the episode “Bonanza: The Return,” he had a supporting part as a reporter named Walter Fenster. He also had the same position in the 1995 episode “Bonanza: Under Attack.”

According to a report that was distributed by NBC, Blocker “went back to school to earn his bachelor of arts degree so that he could teach K-12” at a date that is not specified. Additionally, in 2017, he published a book that he had written entitled “Master and the Little Monk,” which is about “a lonely young boy who is befriended by a unique ally and mentor.”

Films such as Midnight Madness (1980), Raise the Titanic (1980), The Border (1982), Poltergeist (1982), Starman (1984), Trouble in Mind (1985), Made in Heaven (1987), Prince of Darkness (1987), Pink Cadillac (1989), Cutting Class (1989), Equinox (1992), Short Cuts (1993), Night of the Scarecrow (1995), and Mad City (1997) are among his filmography credits. Dirk is an American actor who rose to prominence after landing the role of ‘Detective Michael Hitchcock’ in the television series ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine.’ While he was still in high school, the actor launched his career as a professional in the entertainment sector.

Dirk was offered a contract by ‘Universal Studios,’ the place where he originally became interested in performing and where he had his first acting role. Because of this, he had the opportunity to work with some of the most well-known actors of his era, which served as another educational benefit for him. After some time had passed, Dirk started getting walk-on roles, and finally, he broke into the mainstream industry by making guest appearances in a variety of different television series. Having said that, he was not unfamiliar with the sector.

Dan Blocker, Dirk’s father, was an actor who played an essential part in the ‘Bonanza’ franchise and is still recognized for his work in the series. A significant number of movies and television shows featured Dirk’s appearances. The project titled “Baa Baa Black Sheep” was one of his most well-known works. Despite this, Dirk did not achieve widespread success until the latter stages of his career. The part of ‘Michael Hitchcock,’ which he has performed throughout his career up to this point, is the one that brought him the most fame, and it is also the role that he continues to portray up until this day.

However, the quality of his previous performances was not in any way diminished. The actor has been a part of a remarkable number of popular film and television projects, despite the fact that the majority of his parts have been in supporting or guest capacities. Now that he has more time on his hands, Dirk has decided to try his hand at writing. He has published his first book, which is geared solely for younger readers.

When Dirk first started out in the performing business, he was only 16 years old. In 1974, he appeared on the medical drama series “Marcus Welby, M.D.” on ABC in two episodes playing the role of “Benji.” In the same year, he had a guest appearance on the Western drama series ‘Little House on the Prairie’ on NBC, playing the role of ‘Abel Makay’ in an episode titled ‘School Mom.’ The play was adapted from the ‘Little House’ book series written by Laura Ingalls Wilder for young adults and children. After this, Dirk was cast in the role of ‘Jordan Adair’ in the drama series ‘Lucas Tanner’ which aired on NBC.

After guest starring in the television series ‘The Family Holvak’ in 1975 (in the role of ‘Pete’) and the sitcom ‘Phyllis’ on CBS (in the role of ‘Jack’), Dirk got his big break in the role of ‘1st Lt. Jerome “Jerry” Bragg’ in ‘Baa Baa Black Sheep,’ which was later renamed ‘Black Sheep Squadron. Between the years 1976 and 1978, he appeared in a total of 36 episodes as the character. The historical military drama that was broadcast on ‘NBC’ was based on numerous experiences of Greg Boyington, a famous aviator who served in the ‘United States Marine Corps,’ and his World War II unit, which was called the ‘Black Sheep Squadron.’

In the years that followed, Dirk appeared in episodes of the police procedural program CHiPs on NBC as well as the comedy series ‘B. J. and the Bear.’ In the 1980 comedy film ‘Midnight Madness,’ in which he played the role of ‘Blaylak,’ one of the primary characters, he made his appearance on the big screen for the first time. The next year, in 1980, he starred in the action film “Raise the Titanic,” which was based on the novel of the same name written by Clive Cussler.

While continuing to guest star on various television programs, Dirk also had a small part in the war-themed comedy-drama series “M*A*S*H,” which aired on CBS. The year 1982 marked the first time that Dirk had a role in a horror film. In the movie ‘Poltergeist,’ he was given the role of ‘Jeff Shaw.’ In addition, you may recognize Dirk from his role as ‘Barry’ in the television movie titled ‘Two of a Kind.’

Dirk made an appearance in the television movie titled “Bonanza: The Return” in the year 1993. People were reminded of the popular television series ‘Bonanza,’ in which his father played the iconic part of ‘Hoss Cartwright,’ and the film brought back memories of that series. In the movie, Dirk played a journalist going by the name of ‘Walter Fenster.’ The sequel to “Bonanza,” titled “Under Attack,” which was released in 1995 had him in the same character.

In the years that followed, Dirk had roles in a number of films, television series, and television movies. However, in 2013, he was cast as ‘Detective Michael Hitchcock’ in the sitcom ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine,’ which airs on the Fox network. This part is widely considered to be his most notable to date. He will appear in future episodes of the show in a recurring role. Starting with the second season, he had a recurring role. The audience has been entertained for a number of years now by the synergy that exists between Dirk and his on-screen sidekick, ‘Detective Scully,’ who is portrayed by Joel McKinnon Miller.

Dirk’s father was a talented storyteller, and he was the one who encouraged his son to pursue a career in writing. In 2017, Dirk published his first book, titled “Master and the Little Monk.” The book is essentially a morality tale for children, and it tells the story of a little kid and the people he grows up with. Eric Skotnes, a muralist who also happens to be one of Dirk’s closest friends and whom he first met on the set of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” contributed to the book’s illustration work.

Dirk honed his creative writing abilities during his time spent at a writer’s workshop, which he attended prior to penning the book that bears his name. Earlier, he had written an article with the title ‘Why Walter?’ and published it. It was recognized as the best piece of writing submitted to ‘The Odyssey,’ a publication that is part of ‘Antioch University’s’ quarterly literary journal.
